Six Hardware Specifications To Consider Before Buying A Gaming Laptop

Gaming Laptop.

Computers have come a long way since they were introduced as commercial products. Over the years, there have been massive improvements made to PCs, from their overall performance to the features they possess. Gaming PCs have become popular recently, with their specifications built around giving the user the best gaming experience. The reason gaming PCs exist is that the requirements you need for gaming can differ significantly from what a regular PC possesses.

Laptops are very popular as they provide you with a personal computer that you can take anywhere you want. Gaming laptops offer an alternative to gaming desktops you can carry around with you and use anywhere you want. Gaming laptops don't provide the same price-to-performance ratio as a similar desktop, but they make up for it by offering you other benefits. The fact that you can carry your gaming laptop and use it anywhere makes for a very versatile product. Buying the right gaming laptop can be challenging with so many available on the market. Here are six specifications to look for when buying a laptop to get the best possible product.

CPU

Your laptop's CPU is the thing that will make it work, and it acts as the brain of your computer. Having the right CPU is very important as it directly affects the performance of your computer. Generally, laptops you buy will have appropriate processors in them. Still, for gaming laptops, you always need the one that can match your required performance. Intel processors are the most popular ones and are very reliable.

Long-lasting

People tend to upgrade parts of their PC very regularly, but your CPU is something that won't require a lot of change and can last you a long time even with all the changing technology. So it is best to always go for the best product on the market when buying your laptop, as a good CPU can last a long time.

GPU

Your graphics processing unit is a big part of your computer, and it is the one most talked about for gaming. Your GPU deals with the pixels displayed on your screen and directly affects the performance of your computer. A GPU designed for gaming will be able to give you high frame rates with minimal lag and performance issues.

Important to get the right fit

You always need different parts of your computer to work well together; this is especially necessary for the GPU. The right GPU will allow you to enjoy the full capabilities of your laptop's display and other components.

You might need to upgrade the GPU more frequently depending on the level of performance you require, but a good GPU can still last you a reasonable amount of time.

Display

You won't be able to change your display, so having the right screen on your laptop when you buy is absolutely necessary. You do have the option of using another monitor as the display, but it isn't always viable to carry a monitor around with you.

What to consider?

  • Size of the screen: The right size is up to user preference, and some might prefer a smaller screen. Generally, a larger screen will be more expensive and is what people like.
  • Resolution: Better resolution of your screen will mean better performance. The cost has a lot to do with resolution, as laptops with better resolution will be more expensive.
  • Refresh rates: Your laptop's refresh rates will impact how many frames you will be able to see and the smoothness at higher rates. You will generally see this referred to as Hz.

Storage

Storage devices have come a long way. Nowadays, when looking for the best compatible micro SD card for your camera, you can find small cards with up to 128 GB of memory.

Higher memory can be important, but for gaming laptops, having an SSD might be your best option, as a better SSD will impact the speed of your laptop. A laptop purely for gaming will at max require 1TB, there are newer games that can take up to 100 GB space, but you can always delete and re-download games.

RAM

Your random access memory (RAM) is your gaming laptop's more critical storage device. Unlike your hard drive, your RAM temporarily stores memory based on what applications your PC is running. Higher RAM will generally allow you to run more applications simultaneously.

For gaming laptops, 8GB ram can run many games, but you won't be able to do much more on your laptop while the game is running. A 16GB ram or 32GB will be much more suitable, with the latter offering you the best performance for commercial laptops.

Input devices

Your two most important input devices for gaming are your computer's mouse and keyboard. For gaming, having the right mouse and keyboard is essential to your experience when playing the game. Your laptop will come with a built-in keyboard, but the mouse won't be there. A mouse is a must-buy for any game you play, but the keyboard on your laptop is good enough. If you want some other one, you can always buy one and connect it to your laptop.
