A Staggering Hull Miss Sees Leeds Hold On For A Draw

Once again, following the chaos and comedy of their Millwall match, Leeds United were back to business as usual against in-form Hull until Joe Rodon's reckless challenge on Aaron Connolly saw him sent off and change their game completely.

Daniel Farke needs a conductor, and they may look outside of the club as they search for Pablo Hernandez's replacement.

Joe Rodon’s sending-off

Leeds manager Daniel Farke will be pleased that his side have established an early solid platform to build upon following their hard-fought draw against Hull on Tuesday night, but will miss Joe Rodon after being dismissed at Hull for two yellow cards - however this means their next league match against Watford could go without him.

Welsh international defender Rob Evans' ability to defend, play the ball well and recover quickly has made him an invaluable member of this season's squad. Unfortunately, however, his dismissal after first fouling Aaron Connolly and then receiving two yellow cards for tackles against Cree Summerville will leave many supporters frustrated and unhappy.

Ryan Allsop was impressive on his debut, denying Georginio Rutter one-on-one and also deflecting away a half volley from Summerville - making an immediate impactful statement about their new goalkeeper's abilities despite lacking Rodon himself. Rodon's absence, however, is bound to put further strain on their defensive structure as their position will weaken even further.

Crysencio Summerville’s goal

Leeds have found in Jesse Marsch an invaluable young attacker to become one of their regular starters under him. After disappointing under Marcelo Bielsa, Jesse Marsch has sought to improve him through instilling discipline and personal meetings lasting 30-minutes each week with this player.

Willy Gnonto provided Summerville with the pass that enabled him to score with a quick shot past Alisson and restore Leeds' lead, sending Elland Road into an outrage.

The goal was also a relief for Liverpool full-back Darwin Nunez, who struggled all afternoon to find an opening or find comfort. Meslier foiled two efforts from Nunez immediately before superbly blocking one late effort from Uruguay international Cristian Zarate; an inspiring demonstration of concentration and composure on display.

Ryan Allsop’s first-half saves

Allsop made a strong first impression after signing on winter deadline day for Leeds United. His quick off the mark hands make him ideal for manager Daniel Farke's Roo-ball system.

He made several impressive saves against Georginio Rutter during a one-on-one, then denied Summerville a low shot, before deflecting out Summerville's fierce half-volley at full stretch.

Hull City provided Rosenior with plenty of attacking options but never really threatened. Jack Jewsbury hit an early shot wide while Tyler Morton saw a late effort hit against the post; Aaron Connolly's unselfish corner was almost converted to another goal before Scott Twine saw two efforts go wide before hitting another effort of his own - Adama Traore also hit against the post from inside the box late in the match; Hull will look to convert more chances into goals against relegation-threatened Derby but their top-half hopes have been dented in this match-up for now.

Adama Traore’s late miss

Adama Traore rarely makes headlines for overhitting crosses or missing chances, but after his 89th-minute effort against Leeds it certainly will. Substitute Traore had the chance to seal all three points for Hull after Georginio Rutter's run and pull pass had left their opponents' defense reeling.

However, Mali international Samba Diawara sent his shot crashing against a post and ensured it would live long in Hull fans' memories.

Even without end product, Traore was effective in his second appearance for Wolves since joining from Middlesbrough on a season-long loan. He took four off-target shots, crossed six times (two accurate crosses) and created two chances - although he may never reach his full potential during this season, his performance at Molineux should only strengthen his standing ahead of next season.
