Rotherham finally found stability last season after six years of fluctuation between the second and third tiers; however, promotion remains far off for Matt Taylor’s side.

Ki-Jana Hoever has proven an outstanding loan acquisition from Wolves. A right-sided defender with plenty of pace and ability, the Dutchman opened scoring thanks to Josh Laurent’s pinpoint crossfield delivery.

Ki-Jana Hoever opened the scoring

Ki-Jana Hoever scored an eye-catching opening goal as Stoke City cruised to a 4-1 win against Rotherham at the bet365 Stadium. Although Hoever, 21, had only previously scored once professionally — for Liverpool Under 18s against Wolves back in September — Hoever gave Stoke City an early advantage with an exquisite volley on his full debut – giving his new side an early edge against Rotherham at bet365 Stadium.

As a youngster, The Dutchman was pursued by Manchester clubs and Chelsea but ultimately chose Liverpool where he has become their third youngest senior team player ever. Subsequently he’s been loaned out to Wolves and Stoke City where fans hope he can be their star central defender.

The Potters will also rely on former Preston midfielder Ben Pearson to keep things flowing at the base of midfield, linking with Chiquinho for a fluid frontline. Forwards Jacob Brown, Dwight Gayle and Tyree Campbell can switch positions easily while providing direct running and pace in behind.

Cafu was sent off

Andre Vidigal scored twice in the second half as Stoke romped past Rotherham 4-1 at the Bet365 Stadium to open their Championship campaign with an emphatic 4-1 victory, thanks to Ki-Jana Hoever’s opening goal and then Andre’s summer arrival from Maritimo scoring a quickfire double to bring down 10-man Millers with ease.

Rotherham United’s hopes of an unlikely comeback were dealt a devastating blow in added time when Cafu received his marching orders for making things worse for Rotherham. Cafu attempted to give them hope when he attempted to put away an effort just after half-time but Johansson made an instinctive save, depriving Rotherham an immediate rebound opportunity.

Fans on social media were outraged at the referee’s decision, criticizing it with tweets like ‘Another referee howler. How can you not see that?’ and another tweet stated: ‘Change the rules. Second yellows should be able to be reversed if an official makes a mistake’ while yet another wrote in another tweet that this was what happens when you hire people like this, calling their officials garbage.’

Vidigal hit a brace

Andre Vidigal made his Stoke City debut a memorable one as they demolished 10-man Rotherham 4-0 on his first start from Maritimo. As expected from Maritimo’s direct and agile player he excelled on debut for Stoke City against 10-man Rotherham. Comfortable taking shots outside of the box using either foot he excelled as one of their starting players on Andre Vidigal’s debut performance at 10-man Rotherham.

The 24-year-old opened his account for the club early in the first half when he slotted home from close range following Ki-Jana Hoever’s corner, before almost scoring again but for an instinctive save by Rotherham goalkeeper Viktor Johansson in the second period.

Alex Neil started eight summer signings in his starting XI, with only Mark Travers and Ki-Jana Hoever remaining established members of his back four. Ben Wilmot and Michael Rose started alongside Ryan Mmaee, Jacob Brown, and Vidigal in front of a 4-3-3 formation.

Jacob Brown added a fourth

Ki-Jana Hoever made an impactful return for Alex Neil’s side to provide them with an emphatic first-half opening goal. Josh Laurent delivered a pinpoint crossfield delivery, finding Hoever who took one touch before unleashing a first-time volley that bounced in off the underside of the bar for his goal.

Andre Vidigal quickly marked his arrival on English soil by scoring after Ben Wilmot had nodded back Daniel Johnson’s deep set-piece delivery across goal for him to score after it had been nodded back across goal by Daniel Johnson. It quickly went 2-0.

Chiquinho came close to scoring again with a low strike that forced Sam Hughes into clearing, while Tyrese Campbell was denied by Jamal Blackman at the other end. Cafu was sent off late on, leaving just 10 players on the pitch; Jacob Brown scored late from close range following another fine piece of work by their youngster host defenders.
