Cohere and Float Continue to Dominate LinkedIn’s Top Canadian Startups List

LinkedIn has unveiled its latest list of top Canadian startups for 2024, identifying 15 companies that have demonstrated impressive growth, innovation, and an ability to attract top talent. The ranking is based on LinkedIn’s analysis of data across four key areas: employee growth, interest from job seekers, engagement with the company and its employees, and the success of these startups in attracting talent from other top employers.

To be considered, companies must be independent, privately held, and headquartered in Canada. They also need to have at least 30 full-time employees and be five years old or younger. The majority of the startups on this list are based in Toronto, with others hailing from Vancouver, Kitchener, and Montréal.

Cohere, a Toronto-based AI platform, topped the list with its focus on providing enterprise-level AI solutions like document interpretation and chatbot deployment. Another Toronto startup, Float, offers a spend management platform for Canadian SMBs, helping businesses streamline their spending and budget control. PostGrid, also based in Toronto, has developed a platform for automating and managing mail operations for businesses. Hiive, a venture capital marketplace spun out of Setter Capital, aims to centralize and automate private stock trading.

Pine offers a platform that assists Canadian homebuyers with navigating the mortgage and refinancing process. SALT XC is a digital marketing agency that uses data-informed strategies to develop tech solutions for marketing needs. MedMe Health has created a software platform to help pharmacists optimize their manual workflows, improving efficiency.

Quandri, a Vancouver-based startup, focuses on using AI robotics to assist insurance brokers with handling repetitive tasks. Sweat and Tonic, a wellness and fitness company, provides a curated hub of fitness classes and wellness experiences in Toronto. Carbon6, an e-commerce software aggregator, develops tools for Amazon sellers.

Felix, another Toronto-based startup, helps Canadians access treatment for common health concerns through an online platform. Kensington Grey Agency, also based in Toronto, primarily supports Black creators and addresses underrepresentation in the creator economy.

ZumRails, from Montréal, is a FinTech company offering a digital payment solution to help businesses manage payments, invoices, and subscriptions. OwnersBox, a Kitchener-based sports-tech company, runs a fantasy sports platform with customizable leagues and real-time scoring.

pH7 Technologies, headquartered in Vancouver, is a cleantech startup focused on minimizing the environmental impact of conventional mining. The company is developing innovative, sustainable methods for metal extraction that aim to significantly reduce the harm typically associated with traditional mining practices. Their approach targets cleaner, low-impact techniques to recover critical metals essential for renewable energy technologies, such as those used in electric vehicles and solar panels.
