Step 1: Download QB Tool Hub

  • Close QuickBooks.
  • Download QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save it in an easy-to-find location, like your Downloads folder or your desktop. If you've used the Tool Hub before, you can check your version by selecting the Home tab; the version will be listed at the bottom.
  • Open the downloaded file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  • Follow the prompts. Install it. Agree to the terms.
  • Once installed, double-click the icon.
  • Open the Tool Hub.

Note: If you can’t find the icon, search for QuickBooks Tool Hub in Windows and select it from the results.

Step 2: Run File Doctor

  • Open the Tool Hub. Click on Company File Issues.
  • Select Run QuickBooks File Doctor. It may take up to one minute. And, then, it will open. 
  • Now, choose your company file. 
  • If you can’t access the file, you can get it manually.
  • Click Browse and search to find it.
  • Select Check your file

  • Enter your QuickBooks admin password.

Solution 2: Renaming .ND and .TLG Files

The .ND and .TLG files are essential components of your QuickBooks files. They are configuration files that enable QuickBooks to access your company file in a network or multi-user setup.

  • Access the folder storing company files.
  • Look for the files with the same name as your company file but ending with the extensions .ND and .TLG:
  • company_file.qbw.nd
  • company_file.qbw.tlg
  • Right-click each file.
  • Then, select Rename
  • Add the word OLD. This should be added in the end. 
  • Example: company_file.qbw.nd.OLD
  • Restart QuickBooks.
  • Try accessing company files again.
