How to Draw the Grinch

"All the Whos of Whoville really liked Christmas. Despite the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville, didn't!" How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss. Author Theodor Seuss Geisel, known by the pseudonym Dr. Seuss, published his first children's book, To Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! It was released 20 years later. His main character, the Grinch, first appeared in a poem in 1955. The Grinch is a hermit who lives alone. He is also filled with anger and hatred, his heart being "two sizes too small," at the beginning of the story.

When his bullying moves don't produce the desired effect, he changes his mind and devotes himself to doing good. The Grinch may be a recreation of the character Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles Dickinson's 1843 novel A Christmas Carol. In this story, the unhappy Scrooge experiences a similar change. In 1966, the Grinch made his film debut and arose again in 1982's The Grinch, Grinch's the Cat in the Cap.

He was caught in the 1996 television string The Bibulous World of Dr. Seuss and the 2000 live-action humor the Grinch. His image also appears in books, clothing, and Christmas decorations. Would you like to draw the Grinch? Doing so is easy with the help of this simple step-by-step picture tutorial. You will require a pencil, a report sheet, and an eraser. You can also use crayons, colored pencils, or markers to color your finished drawing.

Step-by-step Instructions for drawing the Grinch

Step 1

Start by drawing an oval. This will help you outline the Grinch's face.

Step 2

Use curved lines to outline the Grinch's face; note the bumps on his cheeks and chin. Let the short lines meet at jagged points, forming the Grinch's green fur.

Step 3

Draw two curved lines down from the face, forming the neck and upper body.

Step 4

Use short, curved connecting lines to enclose a narrow, fluffy, cloud-like shape on top of the Grinch's head. This choice forms the base of his Hat. Draw a similar shape under the head, creating the neck of the garment. Erase guidelines as needed.

step 5

Using curved lines, draw the Hat. The Hat is shaped like a curved triangle, with the tip bent. At the end of the Hat, enclose an irregular shape using several short, curved lines.

Step 6

Draw two parallel lines in an "L" shape to form the Grinch's arm. Detail the elbow with short lines, erasing guide lines as needed. For the other arm, draw a long, curved streak parallel to the body.

Step 7

Draw two curved lines to indicate the eyebrows and another curve below one to form the cheek. Draw a circle under each eyebrow, including the eye. For the nose, enclose a small and irregular shape.

step 8

Fill in the details of the face. Draw the jaws using two overlapping curved bars, with a wavy, curved line at the apiece end. Draw the pupils of the eyes using small circles, with an even smaller process inside each one. Use short, curved lines to add texture past the eyes, under the mouth, and along the cheeks.

step 9

Color the Grinch. He is usually depicted in green, wearing a red and white suit, although it was a colorless pencil drawing in the book's original printing.
