How to make the most famous armenian dishes?

Armenian cuisine is one of the heaviest. Overall Caucasian cuisine is heavy, with a lot of meat and a lot of vegetables. The location, weather, and other things also affected the development of the cuisine. Armenia is surrounded by mountains and as a rule, we have cold winters and maybe that’s why people used to make heavy dishes.

Armenian cuisine may look like its neighbor's cuisines, but each nation has something which they do better than others. The same thing goes for the dishes. Armenian dishes are different from other dishes. They make it so Armenian that no other nation can do it like that.

Let’s see what you can find in an Armenian restaurant when you will visit.

Lavash

Lavash is the favorite kind of bread in every Armenian household. This classic flatbread known as lavash originated in Western Asia and the Caucasus, despite the claims of many cuisine experts to the contrary. Wheat flour, salt, and water make up the dough, which is only leavened by a sourdough starter.

After the dough has risen, it is cut into little lumps that are pressed against the inside of the tonir, a clay oven. These flatbreads might differ in thickness, size, form, and kneading technique depending on the area of Armenia.

Armenians eat lavash with chees, and vegetables. Sometimes they put Armenian barbecue (Khorovats) into the lavash and the lavash absorbs all the taste. Sometimes Armenians prefer absorbed lavash over barbecue itself.

Tolma (Dolma)

Actually, the pronunciation of this dish is different from region to region in Armenia. Some people call it “tolma” and others “dolma”. Anyway, dolma is the best thing that can ever happen to you, just try it.

Dolma is a traditional dish in the area and a mainstay of Armenian cooking. This dish, which is made by boiling rice and tender ground beef in giant grape or cabbage leaves, is very filling and healthy. The crisp, elongated "fingers" of the packed buns are customarily served with minced garlic and a tart yogurt known as matsun. Dolma can be found in practically every region of Armenia, however, there is no recognized Armenian recipe for this traditional delicacy.

Dolma is considered to be a festive food.

Spas

Armenian cuisine is very unique we have a dish that is really heavy and with a lot of meat, but also we have vegan food as well as really light dishes that are good for your health. Spas are one of these dishes. It is light, easy to eat, and very delicious.

Spas, a soup made of fermented milk that is typically served in the sweltering summer, is a peculiar cuisine consumed in Armenia. It is frequently served cold, although it is equally delicious when eaten hot. As the milk base, matsun yogurt and sour cream are employed. When grains, onions, and other greens are added during cooking, matsun and greens combine to give spas a nice sourness. The dish is served with bread or lavash and is tasty and invigorating.
