Lalbagh

Lalbagh is a large public garden located in Lahore, Pakistan. It was inaugurated in 1845 by the Governor-General of British India, Sir Henry Lawrence as an ornamental garden. The park has been the site of several important events in Pakistani history, including the wedding of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mahtab Khanum on 15 August 1928 and the inauguration of Pakistan on 14 August 1947. Today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lahore and is often referred to as "Lahore's Top Architectural Venues".

 

The garden covers an area of over 4 km² and contains more than 2,000 species of plants, including some rare specimens. It features fountains, lakes, formal gardens, shrines, pagodas, and a rose garden. The Lalbagh Park has been described as "unforgettable" by architectural critic Nigel Coates and "one of the jewels in Lahore's crown" by BBC correspondent Irfan Habib.

Shalimar Gardens

Rumi’s tomb

Rumi’s tomb is one of the most iconic places in Lahore and is a popular tourist destination. The tomb was built by Mian Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, in 1243. Rumi is buried next to his father, Abul Qasim Muhammad ibn Abd al-Qadir Jilani. The walls around the tomb are covered with inscriptions written by Rumi.

 

The tomb is open to visitors from 9:00am to 5:00pm every day except Friday when it closes at 4:00pm. There is a fee for entrance into the tomb and there are also guided tours available which cost Rs250 per person.
