Singtel Collaborates with Nvidia and Partners to Drive AI Initiatives

Singtel is taking significant steps in the field of artificial intelligence with the launch of Nxera, its new data center brand. Nxera is designed to play a key role in supporting AI development not only in Singapore but also in other parts of Southeast Asia. The platform aims to foster collaboration with ecosystem partners, including prominent names like Nvidia and Sembcorp. The partnership focuses on various domains such as AI, renewable energy, sustainable technologies, and talent development. Nxera's collaboration with Nvidia is poised to offer companies access to the computing giant's GPU clusters hosted on the AI platform. This partnership is in line with Singapore's updated National AI Strategy 2.0. Companies leveraging Singtel's fixed broadband, submarine cable, and 5G networks will have the capability to run their AI workloads in a multinetwork and multicloud environment. The initiative is anticipated to play a significant role in fostering the growth and advancement of AI capabilities in the region, contributing to Singapore's position as a hub for AI innovation and development.

Nxera is collaborating with several partners, including Sembcorp, Gulf Energy, and Medco Power Indonesia, to achieve operational net-zero emissions by 2028. The data center platform will utilize renewable energy sources from these partners to power its regional data center, aligning with sustainability goals.

Moreover, Nxera is joining forces with five Singapore institutes of higher learning for the creation of the Regional Sustainable Data Center Academy. The academy is designed to train students for the data center industry. Nxera plans to expand the initiative to Thailand and Indonesia in the next phase, contributing to talent development in the data center sector and promoting sustainability practices in the industry.

Nxera's launch follows Singtel's divestment of 20% of its data center business to private equity firm KKR for US$806 million. This deal valued Singtel's regional data center business at approximately US$4 billion and provided Singtel with access to KKR's expertise in expanding the unit across Southeast Asia.

Nxera, the new data center brand launched by Singtel, is actively working on the development of three AI data center projects. These projects are strategically planned for locations in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.
