Tips for Driving a Rental Car in London

cars,london,uk .

Before you hire a car in London, think twice about whether you need it that much. Look at any possible car hire sites in London. Compare prices to see which would be more palatable to you. In the case of travelling with family 7-seater cars are the most recommended option. Getting around the city is much cheaper without one, the main thing is that the charm of London is retained.

Coming as a tourist, it's easier to see Big Ben, Trafalgar Square or Westminster Abbey without a car.

Where to rent a car in London?

Traditionally, car rental services are provided by specialized companies - both international giants and small local firms. The UK market in this respect is not any different from other western countries.

Why a 7-seater car?

A 7-seater car is a spacious vehicle designed to carry large families or groups of people with lots of luggage. Most 7-seater vehicles have 5 doors and spacious seats for 7 people, and the rear seats can be converted into cargo space. The driving characteristics of the 7-seat car people carriers are very similar to the Estate cars.

What is the pricing policy?

Renting a car is not cheap. Prices depend on the class of car and the length of the rental period. The minimum cost is £22 per day for a minimum of a 7-day rental.

Here are a few options for cheap 7-seater minibus hire in London and the prices per day:

  • Volkswagen Caddy - from 45 GBP
  • Ford Tourneo - from 52 GBP
  • Ford Galaxy - from 23 GBP
  • Volkswagen Touran - from 25 GBP

Many companies offer the service of renting a car with a driver. It is convenient because it allows you to get around without being distracted, enjoy the view, and avoid the hassle of finding a parking space.

What kind of difficulties can I face?

To hire a car inexpensively, you should be 21 years old (only people over 25 can count on elite cars), have a driving experience of at least 1 year, and provide a driving licence.

Is insurance compulsory for rentals? What do I need to know?

There are several basic types of insurance that the rental company will offer you:

  1. Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) - The insurance company and the customer share the damage to the vehicle. Note the deductible amount in the contract, you will pay it if the car is damaged.
  2. Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) - No deductible, fully liable to the rental company.
  3. Theft Protection (TP) - Insurance against car theft. It can also be with or without a deductible.
  4. Personal Accident Insurance (PAI) - Personal accident insurance for the driver and passengers in the vehicle.
  5. Third Party - Third Party Damage Insurance.

I don't have a licence, but I want to travel with my family. What to do?

Driver surcharges start from £8 per day. The price usually includes third party, theft, and collision insurance. Renters are responsible only for lost/broken car parts. The driver is responsible for petrol, parking fees, and toll road fees.

American Express, Visa, and MasterCard credit cards are accepted for security deposits. Note that debit cards are not accepted, so make sure you have credit cards. Maestro, Laser, and Visa Debit cards are not accepted.

Special note for renters

Extras are usually priced separately, with infant or child seats costing at least £8.

Often, visitors are asked for proof of identity passport, and proof of home address in addition to a driving license. You can get this from your bank account statement or provide utility bills for the period up to 8 weeks before the rental date.

Cars rented for 1-2 days are usually provided with a full tank of fuel. The car must also be returned with a full tank of petrol. A different rule applies when renting a car for a month or more - if you pick up a car with a half-full tank, it must be returned with empty tank.
