We mapped them all."},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"speakable-summary\">The automotive industry&#8217;s transition to electric vehicles is ushering in a tidal wave of demand for batteries that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/08\/22\/manchins-ultimatum-may-turn-the-us-into-a-battery-powerhouse\/\">upending national industrial policies<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/03\/29\/us-climate-law-startups-investors\/\">reshaping geopolitics<\/a>, and sparking a surge of new factories that will pump out billions of cells.<\/p>\n<p>It may seem like the sector has exploded overnight, but founders, investors and multinationals have been laying the groundwork for this transition over the past decade.<\/p>\n<p>In that time, for example, venture capitalists and private equity firms have invested <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/05\/05\/batteries-have-become-vc-and-pes-most-electric-investment-opportunity\/\">over $40 billion<\/a> into battery technology startups, and some of those investments are now coming to fruition.<\/p>\n<p>Just like powerful, fast-charging cells facilitated the mobile electronics revolution of the last 20 years, ever more plentiful batteries stand to reshape everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/09\/28\/moxion-nails-100m-series-b-to-replace-noxious-diesel-generators-with-silent-batteries\/\">job site generators<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/10\/19\/bendy-batteries-could-power-new-categories-and-anthro-energy-thinks-its-cracked-the-code\/\">wearable electronics<\/a> to the <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/02\/27\/why-so-many-gigafactories-its-not-just-evs-driving-demand\/\">entire electrical grid<\/a>.
