THE MYTH OF SNAPCHAT’S USERS

Have you also opted out of Snapchat as a platform because it’s “only kids and teenagers” there? But what if it’s a myth? In Sweden, half of the users are over 25 years old and over two million Swedes use the app every day.

Most of us associate Snapchat with entertaining filters, or “lenses,” as they’re called in Snap parlance. Who doesn’t remember the rainbow lens or the cute dog that made Snapchat a hit in 2015? (or the nude photos that also abounded in the beginning because they were deleted after a few seconds) Since then, Snapchat has grown and become an app where you hang out with your closest friends and create content that you share. But Snapchat itself prefers to describe itself as a camera company and calls itself “camera first”. Their users don’t want to write primarily, they want to show what they’re doing and share it with their friends, according to Snapchat. How To Generate Traffic From Snapchat?

It is a misconception that most children and teenagers are active on Snapchat. In fact, 50 percent of users are over 25 years old, and a significant portion are even older.

Today, many brands, both Swedish and global, are active on the platform and the creative possibilities have become more and more numerous. You can create your own lenses with your own motifs, add so-called gamification (eg catch pieces of chocolate with your mouth inside the lens) and also let the camera place realistic objects in the outside world, for example, a life-size car on the street.

It is also possible to create filters in the form of, for example, stickers (gift tags with your name on them, a football shirt with your surname) and control these based on the target group and geographical area. It is also possible to advertise on Snapchat and drive traffic to a website, show a longer video or install an app.

There is an almost endless abundance of creative spreads and many have not yet been used by Swedish brands. Here is a chance to be seen, take a position, and communicate with your target group in a playful and relevant way. And not to forget, engaging and attracting conversion. Anyone can, for free, create a Snapchat lens. Why not try and explore the tool? It’s the best way to get to know a new platform – and maybe even reach a new target group.

Are you curious to know more about how you could use Snapchat in your communication and marketing? Contact us and we will help you move forward.
