The AP Poll is a deal in college sports. Every week people talk about it on Twitter in group chats and on Monday mornings. Fans want to know where their team is ranked. They want to see the AP Poll after a game. They want to know when the AP Poll comes out.

This guide will explain all the details you need to know about the AP Poll. What is the AP Poll? People who vote for the AP Poll make their choices in ways. Some people think about how the college teams are doing. Others think about how strong the teams are. The AP Poll and the Coaches Poll are not the thing.

The AP Poll is released at times for college football and college basketball.

The AP Poll is a list that shows the 25 college teams in a sport like college football or college basketball. The AP Poll list has the 25 college teams. People want to know when the AP Poll comes out for college football and for college basketball. It is created by a group of sports journalists and broadcasters from across the country.

The AP Poll exists for college football and college basketball. It is one of the most respected ranking systems in American sports.

The AP Poll is different from computer-generated ranking systems. It is a voted poll. When it comes to voting each voter will send in a ballot. On this ballot they rank the teams. They have to put the teams in order, from the team they like the most, which’s number 1 to the team they like the least, which is number 25. The voter has to rank all 25 teams. These ballots are combined into one AP Top 25 poll. The AP Poll is not run by an algorithm. It reflects the judgment of dozens of reporters who watch these games every week.

The AP Poll is important. In college football it has played a role in shaping the national championship conversation. Today it remains a reference point for the College Football Playoff selection committee. In college basketball the AP Poll is one of factors the NCAA Tournament selection committee considers when setting seeding for March Madness.

The AP college poll has been around since 1936. It was introduced for college football by Alan J. Gould, an Associated Press sports editor. Over the years the format has changed. The number of ranked teams the number of voters and the way votes are tabulated have all changed. The AP has remained the running national organization ranking college football teams. A basketball version of the AP Poll was added later. It has become just as important to the sport.

So you want to know how the AP Poll works. The AP Poll is decided by a group of people who write about sports and talk about sports on the radio or television. There are 60 of these sportswriters and broadcasters. Every week they vote for their teams. They do this by using a link to send in their votes. When they vote, a vote for the number one team is worth 25 points. A vote for the number two team is worth 24 points. This keeps going all the way. The team with the points is ranked number one in the AP Poll. The team with the most points is ranked number two in the AP Poll and so on. The AP Poll ranks the teams from the team with the points, to the team with the least points. The compiled results are published as that weeks AP Top 25 poll.

Voters are told to base their ballots on performance, not reputation. They should consider results on the field not preseason hype or a schools historical brand name. They should also try to avoid bias and give weight to head-to-head results between ranked teams.

The AP Poll for college football follows a rhythm. The preseason poll is released in mid-to August. Weekly polls are released every Sunday incorporating the weekends results. The final poll is released after the championship game.

The AP Poll for college basketball is similar. It has a schedule. The preseason poll is released in November. Weekly polls are released every Monday throughout the season. The final regular-season poll is released before the conference tournaments begin.

The AP preseason poll generates a lot of buzz. Fans of ranked teams like to brag about their teams ranking. Fans of ranked teams use it as motivation. However the preseason AP poll is not a predictor of the national champion. Plenty of preseason No. 1 Teams have finished well outside the spot by seasons end.

Some people get confused about the difference between the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll. Both are 25 rankings. They are not the same thing. The AP Poll is voted on by sportswriters and broadcasters. The Coaches Poll is voted on by college coaches. The AP Poll is run by the Associated Press while the Coaches Poll is run by USA Today in partnership with a coaches association.

The AP Poll is considered authoritative than the Coaches Poll. This is because the AP poll voters are full-time media members who watch and cover these teams closely. Coaches on the hand may be less likely to evaluate every team outside their own conference.

So when does the AP Poll come out? For college football it is released on Sundays in the afternoon. For college basketball it is released on Mondays throughout the season. Release times can vary. Fans can usually find the AP Poll on major sports outlets like ESPN, CBS Sports and USA Today.

The AP poll voters are a rotating panel of sports journalists and broadcasters. They are selected to represent outlet diversity across the country. Each voters individual ballot is public which is why fans like to dissect how a single voter ranked their team. It’s not unusual for a controversial ballot to draw criticism or even go viral during a given week.

Fans can find the AP Poll on every sports outlet. It is usually broken down by the ranked list first-place votes received point totals, others receiving votes and movement from the previous week. The AP Poll is a deal in college sports and it will continue to be a topic of conversation throughout the season. The AP Poll is the AP Poll. It is a part of college sports.

This makes it easy to track a teams trajectory across a season from the AP preseason poll all the way to the AP poll.

AP Rankings vs. Other Ranking Systems

It is worth noting that the term AP rankings specifically refers to this voted poll separate from computer-based systems or the College Football Playoff committees weekly top 25. While all three tend to agree on the handful of teams weeks disagreements lower in the rankings are common.. Often spark the most debate. A team might be No. 15 In the AP college poll. Ranked spots differently by the CFP committee or the Coaches Poll simply because different voters weigh different factors.
