I’ve been at it for over six years, so I write for various clients and websites.<\/p>\n

However, I started with no formal writing experience or education.<\/p>\n

My career took off after writing for content factories for a few years.<\/p>\n

A content factory is a platform that hires a large number of writers.<\/p>\n

These writers are connected with the clients of the platform.\u00a0Customers pay a flat fee for the content they purchase, and the platform keeps a portion of that fee.<\/p>\n

As a writer, you get paid for the content you complete.<\/p>\n

It’s pretty easy to get started as a content mill writer.<\/p>\n

Before you continue reading, I want to cover a few points on how to get started.\u00a0Each content mill is unique, but most of them have the same characteristics.\u00a0Here are some things you need to know.<\/p>\n

Note: Content mills are the platforms where content writing is purchased and produced.<\/p>\n

  • You need basic English grammar, spelling, and writing skills. <\/strong>No other experience is required for most platforms.<\/li>\n
  • You will fill out a basic application.\u00a0<\/strong>For some mills, the application only consists of about five questions. Higher-paying platforms may ask you about your track record, areas of expertise, etc. In general, I have never seen a request take more than 30 minutes to complete.<\/li>\n
  • Typically, you should submit a short writing sample.\u00a0<\/strong>Samples are usually between 200 and 500 words.\u00a0Sometimes you will be given a keyword to type.\u00a0Other times, you’ll get free rein over what you write.<\/li>\n
  • Your sample is graded and your grade determines your starting salary.\u00a0<\/strong>This is how most content mills work.\u00a0You’ll start at a certain level, and that level pays a set amount per word.\u00a0It’s pretty easy to rank up and earn more per word.<\/li>\n
  • You may be required to complete a grammar test.\u00a0Some platforms require writers to pass a grammar or spelling test.\u00a0<\/strong>This is not always the case, but it is worth noting.<\/li>\n
  • Typically, you will choose assignments to write from a large group of topics.\u00a0<\/strong>Some mills will have hundreds or thousands of orders for you to choose from.\u00a0You get details about the task ahead of time, so you can decide if it’s a good fit for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    That’s really all you need to know to move on. You will complete these steps for almost any content mill you request. The process is not difficult and is usually quite quick. Some platforms will approve it instantly, but others may take a few days.<\/p>\n

    1. Textbroker<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    How does Textbroker work?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    Textbroker is one of the most well-known content mill websites.\u00a0Some of his clients include Yoast, eBay, and Staples.\u00a0Textbroker hires writers from all over the world and offers content in more than 15 different languages.<\/p>\n

    If you are a resident of the United States, you will need to register using the link above.<\/p>\n

    To get started writing for Textbroker, you’ll complete a fairly short application.\u00a0You will need to verify your US citizenship.\u00a0This requirement is due to a large number of non-citizens applying on the US site.<\/p>\n

    How does Textbroker pay?<\/h4>\n

    Textbroker pays weekly via PayPal if you have a minimum of $10 in your account. You need to request payment on Thursday night, and you’ll usually receive it via PayPal on Friday. You can request payment simply by clicking a button on your writer control panel.<\/p>\n

    How can you earn $500 per month?<\/strong><\/h4>\n

    For starters, your earnings will be based on your writing sample.\u00a0All new writers start out as 2-star, 3-star, or 4-star writers.\u00a0Here is the payout for each level:<\/p>\n

    • Tier 2\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 0.7 cents per word ($3.50 per 500-word article)<\/strong><\/li>\n

      I started using Textbroker in 2012. I started as a Level 3 writer and earned a penny per word.\u00a0For my first week, I worked pretty slowly until I got used to things.\u00a0I was spending a few hours per weekday writing Textbroker articles.<\/p>\n
