Seagate’s Announcement Signals a Pivotal Shift in the Storage Industry
Seagate Launches Mozaic 3+ Platform with HAMR Technology
Seagate Technology has announced the launch of the Mozaic 3+™ hard drive platform, incorporating Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology. This marks a significant milestone in the storage industry, achieving unparalleled areal densities of 3TB+ per platter. The platform powers Seagate’s Exos® product family, offering industry-leading capacity points of 30TB and beyond. With the ability to store more data in the same floor space, the Mozaic 3+ platform addresses common industry challenges and enables data centers to lower storage acquisition and operational costs.
Key highlights of the Mozaic 3+ platform include:
1. Superlattice Platinum-Alloy Media: The platform uses an iron-platinum superlattice structure, increasing the magnetic coercivity of disk media for precise data writing and unprecedented bit stability.
2. Plasmonic Writer: The revolutionary writer, incorporating a nanophotonic laser, produces an infinitesimal heat spot on the media surface to reliably write data.
3. Gen 7 Spintronic Reader: The Mozaic 3+ includes one of the world’s smallest and most sensitive magnetic field reading sensors, facilitating the reading of smaller grains of written data.
4. 12nm Integrated Controller: An integrated controller, developed in-house, efficiently orchestrates the advanced technologies, delivering up to three times the performance compared to prior solutions.
The Mozaic 3+ platform aims to support the increasing demand for higher-capacity hard drives, especially in data centers, contributing to economically and efficiently expanding mass storage capabilities.
The launch aligns with Seagate's commitment to advancing storage solutions and meeting the evolving needs of various industries, including data centers, enterprise, edge, NAS, and video and imaging applications.
