Foodsi Raises Additional €1.2M in Seed Funding to Address Food Waste Issues

business .

Foodsi, a Polish marketplace dedicated to reducing food waste by connecting consumers with surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, and grocery stores, has successfully raised €1.2 million in a seed round extension. This additional funding brings the total amount raised in the round to over €2.5 million. The investment was provided by a mix of existing and new investors, including AIP Seed, Satus Starter, and AC/VC Impact Fund. The influx of capital will support Foodsi in its growth trajectory, allowing for the expansion of its product and sales teams while also enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, the company is gearing up for its upcoming Series A funding round.

Founded to combat food waste, Foodsi offers a platform that allows food establishments to resell their unsold food at discounts of up to 70%. Users can quickly browse through available offers from participating venues and reserve their chosen package in seconds. These packages, which are available for pickup on the same day or the next day before the venue closes, contain a surprise assortment of items that depend on the establishment's current menu and sales.

The marketplace not only helps businesses reduce waste but also generates additional revenue and attracts new customers, all while promoting environmentally sustainable practices. With nearly 2 million users across major Polish cities such as Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków, Poznań, and the Tricity area, Foodsi has successfully collaborated with both small local businesses and well-known brands like Carrefour, Wedel, Etno Cafe, Cofix, Campanile, and Herbapol.

In addition to its core offerings, Foodsi has recently launched a pilot program aimed at food manufacturers, allowing them to sell products with short expiration dates directly to consumers' homes. This new initiative seeks to further reduce waste within the supply chain by making it easier for manufacturers to distribute perishable goods.

Mateusz Kowalczyk, CEO and co-founder of Foodsi, remarked on the importance of their mission, stating, "Resources get wasted at many points along the supply chain and in different markets. We’re working on new ideas to change that. We’re testing various ways to save resources and hope to share more soon. Even though it’s been a tough year for European startups, we’ve kept growing. We’re seeing more interest in what we’re doing, and we expect to keep growing so we can make an even bigger impact—even beyond Poland."

Bartek Knichnicki, Partner at Satus Starter, expressed confidence in the company’s potential, saying, "We are immensely impressed by the continuous and dynamic growth of the company, which is a result of the hard work of the founders and the entire Foodsi team. We believe that the additional investment will provide the necessary fuel to continue this trend, among other things by enabling the implementation of Mateusz and Kuba’s next ideas. Additionally, we are pleased that we will participate to a greater extent in this success."

With a commitment to innovation and sustainability, Foodsi is poised to enhance its services and expand its market presence, paving the way for a more sustainable approach to food consumption and waste reduction in Poland and potentially beyond.
