Using Rail
The closest train station to Gangotri is Rishikesh, which is located 234 kilometres before Gangotri on NH58 and is well connected to the Indian railway network with major cities. There are many trains going to Rishikesh. From Rishikesh, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and a number of other locations, buses and taxis are available to take you to Gangotri.
By Air:
Air Travel to Gangotri – Jolly Grant Airport, which is about 250 kilometres from Gangotri, is the closest airport. This airport offers numerous daily flights to Delhi, which connects to the majority of the major cities in the nation. This airport has excellent connections to Delhi.
With a vehicle:
Only buses, privately owned jeeps, SUVs, and other types of vehicles can travel on the road to reach Gangotri.
Taxi and jeep services are available at the taxi stands in Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun.. There are tourist taxis available from Dehradun and Rishikesh.

May, June, and September, October are the ideal months to go on a Gomukh hike. Most of the time, it will be sunny during the day, but it will get colder at night. During this time, daytime highs range from 12 to 17 °C in the case of sunshine to 14 to 15 °C in the case of clouds.
The temperature at Tapovan will fluctuate between 5-7°C and can be as low as -2-3°C at night. In particular near Tapovan, snow is possible in May.
