Bboxx Raises Hope on Solar Energy Usage by Nigerians
According to Ernest Akinlola, Managing Director/CEO of Bboxx Nigeria Limited, Nigeria's plan to generate electricity across rural communities can be accomplished through the deployment of solar energy.
Akinlola, who recently won the Hackaholics 2.0 contest, spoke at the official launch and unveiling of Bboxx Nigeria's retail store in Badagry, Lagos state, where he was also a guest of honor.
Speaking at the retail shop's inauguration, he described Bboxx Nigeria as a "next-generation utility" dedicated to transforming people's lives and unlocking potential through easy access to energy.
Bboxx makes clean solar energy accessible to more than 74 percent of Nigerians who live in rural and peri-urban areas and do not have access to electric power.
"Our mission is to close the global energy divide and help the world achieve Social Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which is universal access to clean solar energy," said the CEO of SolarCity.
In southwest Nigeria, the company's operations have already begun to bear fruit with the establishment of the company's first shop in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State."
"This year, Bboxx will expand into new states, including rural Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti," says the company's CEO. Customer access to more affordable solar energy will be facilitated by the use of Bboxx's Pay As You Go Solar Home Systems, which will allow for flexible payment plans, according to Akinlola.
Nigeria and the African continent, according to Akinlola, can benefit from solar energy because it is the safest and most abundant source of energy available. 'It is silent, and it is ubiquitous in a country blessed with guaranteed sunshine for 330 days out of the year.' While there are other renewable energy sources, such as wind and hydro (water), they require a significant amount of capital investment in infrastructure and last-mile distribution. Solar-powered home systems (SHS) are simple to install and extremely cost-effective to operate. All that is required is that you wait for the sun to rise in order to recharge your battery. After it has been charged, it will last you the entire night," he stated.
The fact that we've been in business for more than a decade and have made a difference in more than two million lives is due to the high quality of our products. Our units are made of high-quality materials that will last for several years, depending on how they are used. He continued, "As a company, we provide a two-year warranty with the option to extend it if the customer so desires."
Previous ventures have revolved around Akinlola's passion for the digital economy and the use of technology and innovation to gain a competitive advantage, including the award-winning gaming aggregation platform mylottohub, which he co-founded with another entrepreneur.
Astonished by the opportunity to participate in a ground-breaking partnership with Bboxx to ensure that solar energy is affordable and accepted in emerging markets, Makabe SAN, Global Africa CEO, Mitsubishi, expressed his delight.
Nigeria's market, says Makabe SAN, is well-positioned to meet the global standard for solar energy and that the country is bursting at the seams with opportunity.
In the opinion of Laurent Van Hocke, Co-Founder and Group Chief Operating Officer of Bboxx, the opening of the Bboxx Nigeria retail store represents a call to action for the company.
He went on to say that Bboxx Nigeria has received widespread acceptance from end users since its inception, owing to the fact that the solar market continues to be a sizable market for the company to serve, allowing it to provide high-quality and affordable solar energy to the general public in Nigeria.
Bboxx, a next-generation utility, is transforming lives and unleashing potential in developing countries by manufacturing, distributing, and financing decentralized solar-powered systems. Bboxx is a global leader in next-generation utilities.
Bboxx connects people to the digital economy, creates new markets, and facilitates economic development in off-grid communities and areas that do not have a reliable power supply.
A positive impact on the lives of nearly two million people in over 27 markets is made possible by the company's products and services, which have a direct positive impact on 11 of the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Over the course of its history, Bboxx has installed more than 500,000 solar home systems and currently employs over 1000 people across nine offices in countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, and Togo, with its headquarters in the United Kingdom and manufacturing operations in China. Bboxx was founded in the United Kingdom and is headquartered in the United Kingdom.
A testament to the company's positive impact on people's lives all over the world, Bboxx was named the winner of the Zayed Sustainability Prize for Energy in 2019 – a category in which it competed.
During the last decade, the company has made significant investments in the solar energy industry. A variety of sources, including our partners at Mitsubishi Corporation and Bamboo Capital, as well as organic revenue, have contributed to its success.
