Binance, the world's largest blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency exchange, has announced a partnership with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as an official sponsor of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments. The partnership will see Binance bring its global brand and technology to African football for the first time. The prestigious football tournament will be held in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022, and will be the first time in the country.
As part of its sponsorship of the AFCON 2021 tournaments, Binance will serve as the exclusive cryptocurrency and blockchain platform for the tournaments, marking the company's first sponsorship of a major football event.
As part of the partnership, Binance will serve as the official partner of the Binance Assist of the Day / Binance Assist of the Week / Binance Assist of the Tournament, which will be promoted across all six venues in five cities throughout Cameroon, as well as across the CAF's social media channels, which will include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, among others.
According to Veron Mosengo-Omba, the CAF's General Secretary, "I am delighted to welcome Binance as an official sponsor of the AFCON tournament this year." Through this collaboration with CAF, Binance will strengthen its ties with its users as well as with the African community. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is ready to embrace blockchain technology and its potential impact on the development of African football in the future. "I am confident that, in collaboration with Binance, we will be able to catapult African football to unprecedented heights."
Over 541,000 Africans have benefited from free crypto education classes provided by Binance since 2020, as part of the company's mission to accelerate blockchain adoption and expand financial services access for the world's unbanked populations. The topics covered range from user protection to establishing a blockchain-related career.
According to Yi He, co-founder and chief marketing officer of Binance, "With a population of 1.2 billion people in Africa, and the prevalence of blockchain technology and its use cases, we believe the African continent has the potential to lead the future of the blockchain industry." More people understand cryptocurrency and Binance as a result of our efforts to broaden mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency," says the team.
The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament serves as the kickoff event for the continent's sporting calendar. Emmanuel Babalola, Binance's Director for Africa, stated that football is the most popular sport in Africa and one that unites the entire continent. "As the leading blockchain ecosystem, we are proud to be an official sponsor of the AFCON tournament," Babalola added. This reaffirms our mission to bring cryptocurrency into the mainstream across the continent."
