Boomplay Streams are now included in Billboard's chart of the most popular songs
The data from music streaming platform Boomplay has been added to the data that informs the prestigious Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200, Artist 100, and Billboard Global 200 charts as well as all other Billboard US and international charts that include streaming data. This is part of the company's commitment to assisting the African music industry in realizing its full potential.
This will be effective for data collected during the tracking week of October 15–October 21, as well as for data collected prior to that. (According to Billboard charts dated to October 30.)
In addition to the inclusion of Boomplay's stream data in the iconic charts, which are viewed by millions of people worldwide, the inclusion of Boomplay's stream data in the iconic charts allows African and international artists and music to gain additional exposure on a global stage.
Boomplay streams will be included in the 'Others' data bucket under Audio On-Demand on MRC Data's Music Connect platform starting on October 12, 2021 for streams that begin on October 8, 2021, and will be available for download starting on October 12, 2021.
It is reported by Billboard that "MRC Data's foundation is built on providing the music industry and our clients with the most comprehensive view of music consumption," according to the company. We are pleased to announce that additional data from Boomplay has been added to our database."
Boomplay's Director of Content and Strategy, Phil Choi, described the company's inclusion in the charts as "a significant step toward ensuring that African artists on the platform are fairly and equally represented in critical areas and have access to comparable opportunities as their international counterparts." "This is a significant step toward ensuring that African artists on the platform are fairly and equally represented in critical areas and have access to comparable opportunities," Choi said. While it may have seemed impossible in the past, our partnership with Billboard Charts has now provided us with a foot in the door to this industry."
Boomplay's streaming data included in the Billboard charts includes subscription-based streams as well as logged-in streams from its ad-supported tier, with streams from each tier being weighted in proportion to their respective tier weighting.
