Helium Health of Nigeria acquires Meddy, a health-tech company based in the United Arab Emirates
Helium Health, a Nigeria-based health technology startup, has acquired Meddy, a doctor booking platform with offices in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, for an undisclosed sum.
Helium Health is the largest provider of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Hospital Management Information (HMI) Systems in West Africa. Helium Health is headquartered in Ghana. Meddy, in addition to providing a doctor booking platform and telemedicine solution for managing bookings and patient reviews, also provides marketing solutions to assist hospitals in improving their online presence and attracting new patients.
In response to the acquisition, Adegoke Olubusi, Chief Executive Officer of Helium Health, stated that the company has always been open to strategic acquisition opportunities.
Helium Hygiene
Helium Health was founded by Adegoke Olubusi, Dimeji Sofowora, and Tito Ovia in the year 2016. As an enterprise-wide electronic medical records (EMR) and hospital management solutions platform, it got its start in Africa in the early 2000s.
Since then, it has broadened its range of services available to customers to include a greater variety of options. Hospitals can now track analytics, manage a digital payment system, and apply for facility loans through the platform, which was previously unavailable. Aside from that, the startup offers health-care facilities access to a telemedicine platform that allows them to communicate with patients over the internet.
In addition to Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Liberia, Kenya, and Uganda at this time, the health technology startup also has more than 500 healthcare facilities on board. These facilities now provide care to over 300,000 patients per month, thanks to the efforts of more than 7,000 medical professionals. To date, Helium Health has raised a total of $12.2 million in funding for its research and development.
Meddy acquisition
It is based in the United Arab Emirates, and it is a doctor appointment booking service that allows users to search for and book appointments with medical care facilities in their local area. The service was first introduced in Qatar and is now available in the United Arab Emirates as well.
It was founded in 2015 by Haris Aghadi, the CEO, and Abed Alkarim Khattab, the COO, with the help of other investors. Over 150 private clients in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar are served by Meddy at any given time. Over 200,000 doctor appointments have been scheduled, and approximately $130 million in billing for healthcare providers has been processed through the company's services.
Both companies will benefit strategically from the acquisition, as they will be able to provide a wider range of health-related services. Healthcare is expected to grow rapidly in the Gulf Cooperation Council. The investment in digital infrastructure in the region will account for 30% of total healthcare spending between 2023 and 2030, according to the World Bank.
By combining the services of both companies, appointment scheduling, marketing solutions, electronic medical records, and hospital management information systems can all be handled in a single location.
According to the CEO of Helium Health, the company's next goal is to improve its service to clients in the GCC market while also expanding its telemedicine and doctor booking services to clients in the African continent, among other things.
