How to Enable the Night Mode Feature in Google Search

However, while Google Search is a popular daily tool, the white background can be a distraction in a dimly lit environment. It goes without saying that the solution is Google Search Dark Mode, which you can enable on your desktop computer using the instructions below. Aside from the Dark and Light Modes, users now have three appearance settings options in Google's search engine, with the third being the option to keep Google Search's appearance settings synced with their computer's default theme, which is particularly useful if users have set an automatic timer to turn on and off Dark Mode. Eye strain can be reduced by using the Dark Mode, which keeps the contrast ratio as low as is necessary for readability.

According to a post on Google's Support, the appearance settings for Google Search were first announced in September 2021. There are three new appearance options: Device default, Dark, and Light. The device default setting is the default setting. Moreover, according to the post, the new Dark Mode settings started rolling out to users on September 9 and will gradually become available to all users over the course of the next several weeks.

How to activate Dark Mode in Google Search

According to the announcement, the new appearance settings will be applied to the Google homepage, Search results page, and Search settings pages, as well as any other linked webpages on the Google network of websites. The default setting of the device is automatically matched to the color scheme of the device. Light text is displayed on a dark background in the Dark setting, while light text is displayed on a light background in the Light setting. Additionally, Gadgets 360 was able to change the appearance settings for Google Search through its API. These are the steps to take in order to make Google Search appear darker.

  • Open your Web browser's address bar and type google.com into it.
  • In the bottom right corner of the Google Search homepage, select Settings.
  • Click on Appearance; if it is not visible under Settings, select Search Settings and then Appearance from the left-hand panel of the page that is displayed after it has been loaded.
  • Choose one of the following options: device default, dark, or light.
  • At the bottom, click Save.

Dark Mode for Google Search on desktop will be tested beginning in December 2020, according to Google. As of May 2020, a Dark Mode has been available for Google Search on mobile devices.
