How to Install Google Assistant on Samsung Galaxy Smartwatches

How to Install Google Assistant on Samsung Galaxy Smartwatches.

Install the GAssist Watch and Phone Apps

Samsung Galaxy smartwatches are a great option for those who are making use of Android phones, but they do not have the Google Assistant application, which can be a deal-breaker. Here is how to get Google Assistant up and running on your Samsung wearable device.

Open the Galaxy Wearable app on your Android smartphone, go over to the Galaxy Store, and then search for “GAssist.”

Select the “GAssist.Net” by developer Kamil Kierski, and then click on “Install.”

Tap on the resulting “Accept and Download” popup.

After that, go to the Google Play Store on your Android smartphone. Search for “GAssist,” and then choose the “GAssist.Net Companion” application by cybernetic87.

Download the application by tapping on the “Install.” button

Once both applicatiions are installed, you will need to get a “key” for Google Assistant from the Google Cloud Platform.

Get a “Key” for Google Assistant

On your computer, open up a browser tab and go to the Google Cloud Platform. Read and accept their terms of service if prompted, and then click on “Select a Project” buton at the top.

Then click on the “New Project” in the resulting pop-up window.

Give the new project a name, and then click on the “Create” button.

Click on the hamburger menu at the top left to open the sidebar, and then select “APIs and Services” from the menu.

Click on the new project you just created.

Click onn “Enable APIs and Services” at the top of the screen.

In the search bar, search for “Google Assistant.”

Click on the “Google Assistant API” option.

Click on “Enable.”

On the page that comes up, click on the “Create Credentials” option.

In the  deop-down menu option “Which API Are You Using?” choose the “Google Assistant API.”

Click on the “Where Will You Be Calling the API From?” drop-down menu, and then select the option “Android.”

Select “User Data” under the box that has “What Data Will You Be Accessing?” Then, click on the “What Credentials Do I Need?”

Click the “Set Up Consent Screen” in the popup tht comes up. This might open a new tab in your browser so dont worry.

If the next screen asks you to select a “User Type,” select the one that matches your use case, and then click on “Create.”

Type a name in the “Application Name” text box, and then click on“Save” at the bottom of the page.

If you are not automatically redirected, select the “Credentials” tab that is in the sidebar, and then click on “Create Credentials” at the top.

Select “OAuth Client ID” from the list there.

When you get to the “Application Type” drop-down menu, click on “Other” or “TVs and Limited Input Devices.” Enter in a name or use the default, and then click on “Create.”

Return to the “Credentials” tab and click on the Download icon that is next to the “OAuth Client ID” which you just created.

Now, you would have to move the downloaded JSON file to your Android device. Plug your smartphone into your computer to access the device internal storage.

Open the file manager and select your smartphone. Copy the downloaded JSON file to the “Download” folder on your smartphone and rename it to “secrets.json.”

Finish the Setup on Your Phone

Next thing to do is to open the GAssist application on your smartphone and tap “Browse.”

Go over to the “Download” folder and select “secrets.json.

You should see a message saying “File Loaded Successfully;” after that click on “Next.”

Select “Authenticate” to give GAssist access to your Google account.

Copy the authentication code by using the on-screen button, and then go back to the GAssist application.

Paste the code in the text box, and then click on “OK.”

You should now see three green checkmarks. Tap “Done” to go ahead.

Use Google Assistant on Your Samsung Watch

Open the GAssist application on your Samsung Galaxy smartwatch and allow GAssist to access the microphone and storage of the device.

Tap “Listen” to speak to Google Assistant and it would respond to your command. If your wearable has a built in speakerspeaker, you will hear the response out loud. Tap “Stop” to end the response.

To make Google Assistant easy to launch, we would recommend you set it as the double-press Home key shortcut.

To do so, go over to Settings > Double Press Home Key > GAssistNet on your Samsung Galaxy smart watch.

Now, you can quickly launch the Google Assistant from anywhere by just double-pressing the Home key.
