How to Retrieve Deleted Images and Videos from Google Photos

Google Photos is a popular cloud storage option for backing up photos and videos, especially for Google Pixel and other Android users. It is particularly popular among photographers. You can store old photos on this platform and access them from any device that supports Google account sign-in, including smartphones and tablets. Google Photos organizes photos in a logical manner by face, location, date, and a variety of other categories. Google Photos app retains even deleted photos and videos for a period of 60 days before they are permanently deleted from the Google Photos app's Trash folder. And they can be retrieved before they are lost forever. This is only true, however, if the Google Photos Backup and Sync feature has been enabled on your computer.

How to recover deleted photos and videos from Google Photos

If a user wishes to recover deleted photos and videos, they must first check the Trash folder of the app in which they deleted them. It is not possible to recover a deleted photo or video that is not already in the Trash. Deleted photos that have been more than 60 days old or photos that have been deleted and then emptied from the Trash folder will not be recoverable. Additionally, if the photo or video was deleted from the Trash folder on a device running Android 11 or later and it was not previously backed up, it will not be able to be recovered. Additionally, if the Trash folder was deleted permanently or if the content from the device's Gallery app was deleted permanently without first creating a backup of the content, the restoration will not be possible to complete. It is possible to recover a photo or video from Google Photos' Trash folder using your Android phone or a web browser by following the steps outlined below.

  • If you want to restore a photo or video from your Android phone, Android tablet, iPhone, or iPad, you must first open the Google Photos app on your device.
  • Select Library from the drop-down menu at the bottom, then navigate to the Trash folder.
  • Locate the image or video that you wish to restore and double-click it to open it. In your hand, hold the photo or video you want to use.
  • At the bottom of the page, click on the Restore option. Photos and videos will be restored to the Gallery app on the phone, as well as the Google Photos library and the albums in which they were originally located.
  • The website photos.google.com can be accessed from your computer.
  • On the left-hand side of the window, select the Trash folder.
  • With your mouse cursor over the image or video that you wish to restore, select it with the right button.
  • Select Restore from the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner. A copy of the image or video will be restored to your Google Photos account, and it will be re-added to any albums that it was previously included in.
