How to Send Disappearing Photos and Videos in WhatsApp

Would you like to transmit disappearing photographs or videos on WhatsApp in the style of Snapchat? The Facebook-owned messaging service makes it possible for you to do so. This feature is referred to as "View Once." Here's how to include it into WhatsApp.

How Secure Are Disappearing Photos in WhatsApp?

Despite the fact that transmitting ephemeral media tends to provide the appearance of privacy because the photographs or videos will be wiped from the conversation, this does not imply that your media is genuinely private. Starting with the View Once feature of WhatsApp, there is nothing to prevent someone from taking screenshots or screen recordings, as well as images or videos, of the media you give to them.

It is also noted on WhatsApp that encrypted media files may be stored on the company's servers for up to a few weeks after they have been received. Apart from that, if someone reports the message to WhatsApp, the firm will gain access to the vanishing photo or video you transmitted using the messaging service.

It is not possible to restore a photo or video that has been opened since it will not be included in WhatsApp backups if it has been opened. Unopened media files supplied with the “View Once” option activated, on the other hand, will be saved up, and they can be restored from backups.

Even so, there are certain privacy advantages to utilizing this tool. View Once media delivered over WhatsApp will not be immediately stored to the recipient's gallery because it was sent using the View Once function. These media files will be removed after they have been viewed by the receiver, and the sender will not be able to view the files after they have been sent. When you get a vanishing photo or video on WhatsApp, you have 14 days to view it before it disappears completely. This will result in the files being automatically erased if you are unable to do so.

These messages can't be forwarded, saved, shared, or starred since they aren't HTML. However, as we previously stated, anyone may take screenshots or screen recordings of these files in order to circumvent some of these restrictions if they like.

At the time, there is no way to make the View Once feature default-enabled in any way. During the sending process, you'll have to pick it each time you send something. Only if the recipient has enabled read receipts on WhatsApp will you be able to see whether or not the media you sent has been opened after you send it using the View Once function.

While in a WhatsApp chat on your iPhone, select “Camera” or “Photo & Video Library” from the drop-down menu that appears after you tap the “+” (plus) button in the chat. You have the option of either clicking or selecting the photo or video that you want to send.

You can click "Camera" to use WhatsApp for iPhone to click photos or videos. Alternatively, you can select "Photo & Video Library" to upload media files from the Photos app on your iPhone.

Using WhatsApp for Android, you may open any conversation and then tap the paper clip icon located within the chat box.

After that, select “Camera” or “Gallery” and you will be able to either click or select a photo or video to send from your computer.

The "1" icon, often known as the View Once button, can be used to quickly view a media file after it has been selected in WhatsApp. Located in the bottom-right corner of the caption box, to the left of the blue submit button, this button will be activated when you click on it.

Once you click on the View Once option, WhatsApp will display a pop-up message informing you that you are seeing a photo or video that is about to disappear. You can dismiss this pop-up by using the "OK" button.

When the View Once button is selected, hit the “Send” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen to send disappearing photographs or videos to a WhatsApp contact or to a group of contacts. In both iOS and Android, the “Send” button is represented by a right arrow on a blue circle background, and in iOS it is represented by a right arrow on a green circle background.
