How to Simply Enable Toggle Mute & Push to Mute on Discord With easy Steps
Discord's user settings give you the ability to create custom keybindings for functions such as muting your microphone. Using the mute button on your microphone provides you with two options. Mute can be toggled on and off, or it can be activated by pressing the mute button. Each method has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.
The difference between using Toggle Mute and using the Push to Mute button
Toggle Mute allows you to switch between using the microphone and not using it. This means that to turn it off, you must press the set keybind key once more. This means that until you enable the microphone again, it will remain muted.
In gaming situations, it is preferable to use the mute button. If someone is speaking in your room, you can simply press the mute button on your microphone. Using this method, you can continue to play while your microphone is muted without having your gameplay be hindered.
You can easily unmute your microphone once the room has been cleared. One disadvantage is that it's easy to become distracted and forget to unmute your microphone when you're in a hurry.
When using Push to Mute, you must continue to hold down the selected key in order to remain muted. As soon as you release the key, the microphone will be unmuted and ready for use.
The key must be held down while there is any sound in the room if you choose to use the push-to-mute feature. If you're playing a video game, this is not recommended because it eliminates one of your movement options.
How to Configure Toggle Mute & Push to Mute on Discord
1. To access the user settings, select the gear icon from the toolbar. Located in the bottom left corner of Discord, next to your name, is where you can find this.
2. Select "Keybinds" from the "Keybinds" menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
3. At the top of the window, select "Add a Keybind" from the drop-down menu. There will be a new action added to the list. It will be left unassigned as a result of the default setting.
4. From the action drop-down menu, choose either toggle mute or push to mute from the list of options. You can always create a new keybind to enable both in the future if you change your mind.
5. To "Record Keybind," click on the empty box to the right of the keyboard.
6. Make a list of the keys or buttons that you want to disable. You can also use a key combination or a mouse button to accomplish your goal.
7. After you're satisfied with the hotkey, you can pause the recording.
8. Upon reaching this point, your push or toggle mute will be operational.
