How to Update Your Apple AirPods

How to Update Your Apple AirPods.

What are Apple AirPods?

Apple AirPods are wireless Bluetooth earbuds that are created by Apple. They were first released on the 13th of December, 2016, and they are sold beside the premium Apple AirPods Pro.

In addition to playing audio sounds, Apple AirPods comes with a built-in microphone that filters and takes away background noise, which supports the taking of phone calls and talking to Apple's digital assistant, Siri. Also added to the Apple Airpods are built-in accelerometers and optical sensors that are used to detect taps, for example, double-taping to pause and play audio and in-ear placement, which facilitates the automatic pausing when they are taken out of the ears.

Apple occasionally regularly releases firmware updates for their AirPods and AirPods 2 wireless headphones that can come with several performance improvements, bug fixes, and feature tweaks. For example, the day that Apple released its second-generation Apple AirPods to the general public, the company also brought out a new firmware update for their first-generation AirPods, taking them up their version from version 3.7.2 to version 6.3.2.

Apple AirPods is made up of a proprietary Apple W1 SoC which helps to optimize battery use and processes the Bluetooth 4.2 connection as well as the audio and microphone sounds.

Steps to update your AirPods

There are many reasons why you would want to update your Apple AirPod to a more recent firmware version, for example, you might be having a particular problem with your Apple AirPods or on your Apple AirPods 2, or if you just want to make sure that they are up to date with the current and latest software from Apple, then follow the steps below.

  1. Insert your Apple AirPods‌ into their charging case if they are not yet inserted already.
  2. Connect the charging case of the AirPods to an external power source by using the Lightning to USB cable that is included in it when you purchased it, or alternatively, if you have a Wireless Charging Case, place it on your Qi-compatible wireless charging mat.
  3. Take your iPhone or iPad that your Apple AirPods have been paired together with, and place it nearer to the charging case, and make sure the iOS device has an active and good internet connection.

And that's all that you need to do there. After a short period of time, any available software updates that are compatible with the device should be automatically downloaded and installed. If you're still having trouble with updating your AirPods, make sure that the charging case is fully charged. You can also try resetting the ‌AirPods‌ to there default settings.

Check Your ‌AirPods‌' Firmware Version

To check the version of the firmware that you have just installed on your Apple Airpods, to ensure that it is up to date, follow these steps below:

  1. Launch and open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on the General option.
  3. Tap on the About option.
  4. Tap ‌on AirPods‌.
  5. Check the numbers that are displayed beside the Firmware Version.

Firmware updates for the ‌Apple AirPods‌ don't come out regularly, and the latest version is 6.3.2.
