TikTok is the most downloaded app, followed by Instagram

TikTok, Instagram, Social Media.

TikTok is the most downloaded app, followed by Instagram

According to data from Sensor's Store Intelligence platform Tower, the Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok reclaimed the top spot as the most downloaded application in the world in October 2021, with more than 57 million downloads. The majority of TikTok downloads (17 percent) originated in the Chinese city of Douyin, with only 11 percent coming from the United States (US). Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, came in second place, with a narrow margin.

For more than ten months, TikTok has been the most downloaded non-gaming app on the market. Indeed, in August, it was named the most downloaded app of the year 2020. Besides Facebook, the Chinese video-sharing platform is the only non-Facebook application to have made it into the top five most downloaded applications in the world. Having gained more than 56 million installs, Instagram has risen to second place on the list of the most downloaded apps in the world, representing a 31 percent increase over the previous month. India had the highest number of downloads, accounting for 39 percent, followed by Brazil, which accounted for 6 percent.

Instagram, on the other hand, outperformed Google Pay in terms of global downloads, with TikTok coming in third place. In addition to TikTok and Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram were among the top five most downloaded games in October 2021, according to Statista. Other apps that made the top ten list included Snapchat, Messenger, Meesho, Spotify and CapCut, a video editor. According to Sensor Tower and MAAS data, shopping apps reached a milestone of 113 million downloads in October 2021, marking the first time the category has reached this milestone since October 2020. Meesho, the shopping application that ranked eighth in terms of total downloads among the top ten apps, was responsible for more than 12 million downloads.

Notably, India's government banned TikTok, the most popular non-gaming app, along with 58 other Chinese-sourced apps, including CamScanner and PUBG Mobile, citing national security concerns. TikTok was the most downloaded non-gaming app in the country. Despite this, TikTok's popularity continues to grow in other countries, including China. TikTok, a video-sharing app best known for its dance videos, has also become a shopping phenomenon, attracting more than a billion users worldwide and establishing itself as a global leader in online shopping. TikTok sections are being launched on national television networks in the United States.
