What You Need to Know About Discord Backup Codes
Discord Backup Codes: What Do They Mean?
In the event that you are locked out of your Discord account, a backup code is an eight-digit code that will allow you to regain access to your account. It serves as a backup for the six-digit two-factor authentication (2FA) code, which is used in conjunction with the Discord username and password to complete two-factor authentication on the Discord server (2FA). Using 2FA to log into Discord is an optional second level of security; it is not required, but it is highly recommended for added security.
The backup code for Discord is NOT the same as the password for the Discord account.
How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication?
Because of its dependability as a security mechanism, two-factor authentication has gained popularity among Discord users. Furthermore, many users are interested in using this service but are unsure how to set up two-factor authentication in their browsers. As a result, this serves as their guide.
1. To begin, download an authentication app to your smartphone (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1 Password, etc.).
2. Following the initial launch of Discord, navigate to User Settings and then click Enable Two-Factor Authentication under the My Account tab.
3. Scan the OR code with your authentication app in the pop-up window that appears after scanning the OR code. You can also enter the 2FA Key directly into the authentication software, if that is more convenient for you.
4. The authenticator will generate six-digit codes for you to enter into your computer.
5. In the Discord popup window, enter one code and then click on the button that says Active.
Each time you log into Discord after enabling 2FA, you will be prompted to enter your authentication code after your password, as shown in the screenshot below.
