WhatsApp now lets you join a group call after it has started with its new feature

WhatsApp has introduced a novel feature that enables users to join a group call after it has begun. The new feature, dubbed Joinable Calls, eliminates the requirement that you be present when the call begins. As long as you were invited in the first place, you are free to enter and exit a group call as frequently as you like.

As with Zoom or Microsoft Teams, this new feature simplifies the process of following a conversation by eliminating the need to wait for someone to accept your call request.

To further simplify matters, there is a call information screen that displays who is currently on the call and who has been invited but has not yet joined. If one is busy at the time, one can also 'ignore' and join later from the WhatsApp calls tab.

This enables you to multitask or pursue other interests during that time period, as you can drop off and rejoin the call as long as it is still active. This also applies to other group members.

Getting more ‘professional’?

WhatsApp appears to be positioning itself as a professional platform capable of hosting conferences such as Zoom, Google Meets, and Microsoft Teams through this development. Its end-to-end encryption gives it a significant advantage over competitors in this regard.

In May, the messaging service increased the maximum number of users on a group call from four to eight. However, at the time of the call, all eight participants must be present. This means that if users are required to carry everyone along, there may be numerous interruptions and restarts.

However, by implementing this Joinable Call feature, WhatsApp achieves the same advantage as its more professional competitors while retaining WhatsApp's informal nature and spontaneity.

At no time may more than eight people be on a call. Additionally, a strong internet connection is required, as this will affect the clarity of the video call.

You can opt out of any video call at any time, but you cannot delete a contact unless the contact chooses to do so.

While you can participate in a group video call with someone you've blocked, you cannot add a blocked contact or a contact who has blocked you to the call. Finally, video calling is only available on iOS and Android devices running version 4.1 or higher.

This is a positive development because, at a time when many people and families are separated, there is a need to stay connected with family and friends, and nothing beats getting together on a group call with friends and family.
