Veeam Boosts Data Cloud Vault to Maintain Leadership in Data Resilience

business .

Veeam, in collaboration with Microsoft, has launched a new release aimed at enhancing cloud storage for customer-managed backups. This release introduces two editions with low-cost, all-inclusive pricing, designed to address common challenges that organizations face with forecasting and managing cloud storage costs. Alongside this, a major enhancement to Veeam’s offerings is the integration of Veeam Data Vault with the Veeam Data Platform. This integration simplifies the process of implementing immutable, offsite backups for Veeam users, ensuring that backup data is securely stored in a Veeam-managed, encrypted, air-gapped environment. The integration will be featured at Microsoft Ignite in Chicago from November 19-22.

Cloud storage offers numerous advantages, including simplified security and the ability to scale with increasing data volumes. However, despite these benefits, many organizations still encounter difficulties in accurately predicting and managing costs, optimizing operational efficiency, and acquiring the expertise needed to configure and manage cloud storage environments effectively. Veeam Data Cloud Vault addresses these issues by offering a solution that simplifies the process of data storage management. This solution integrates seamlessly with Azure Blob Cool Storage, allowing organizations to securely store backup data in a predictable, cost-effective manner, eliminating the need for organizations to deal with the often unpredictable cloud cost models that are typical of many traditional cloud services.

With Veeam Data Cloud Vault, organizations can rest assured that their backup data is not only securely stored but also always immutable and encrypted, further enhancing protection. In addition to ensuring secure data storage, the service minimizes the downtime organizations experience by enabling quick restores to both on-premises and Azure virtual machines. This feature is critical for businesses aiming to ensure business continuity and minimize the disruption caused by data loss or system failures.

Niraj Tolia, Chief Technology Officer at Veeam, stressed the growing importance of data resilience, particularly in an era where cyber threats are increasing in scale and sophistication. He emphasized the need for organizations to have a reliable and cost-effective method for achieving data resilience. Veeam Data Cloud Vault addresses these needs, offering secure, predictable, and simplified cloud storage for backup purposes. This new release further solidifies Veeam’s partnership with Microsoft, providing Veeam users with a secure, scalable, and cost-effective alternative to traditional cloud storage solutions. The predictable pricing model, coupled with two new editions, Foundation and Advanced, gives organizations the flexibility to choose the solution that best meets their needs while avoiding the cost unpredictability typically associated with cloud services.

Aung Oo, Vice President of Azure Storage at Microsoft, highlighted the value of the partnership between Veeam and Microsoft, noting that integrating Veeam’s Vault offering with the Veeam Data Platform simplifies data protection and disaster recovery processes for customers. The integration leverages Azure’s secure cloud infrastructure, offering regional options to meet data residency and compliance requirements. By building Veeam Data Cloud Vault on Azure, Microsoft ensures that customers benefit from the global scale, security, and reliability of the Azure cloud platform, while also gaining access to Veeam’s expertise in business continuity and disaster recovery.

Veeam Data Cloud Vault follows a Zero Trust Data Resilience (ZDTR) approach, extending Zero Trust principles to the backup environment. This approach ensures that backups are protected against cyber threats, such as ransomware, and guarantees the integrity and availability of backup data. By supporting the 3-2-1-1-0 rule for data protection, Veeam Data Cloud Vault enables organizations to maintain multiple backup copies in different locations, with at least one of those copies being immutable, ensuring data resilience and protection against potential attacks.

The key benefits of Veeam Data Cloud Vault include enhanced security and durability, predictable pricing, and simplified management. The service’s security and durability features are built on a Zero Trust architecture that ensures data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The service offers up to 12 nines of durability, which means it can withstand catastrophic data center failures. Additionally, Veeam applies best-in-class security measures to protect organizations from cyber threats, including ransomware and attacks targeting backup data. With predictable pricing, organizations can benefit from flat, per-TB pricing that includes read/write requests and egress fees, making it easier for businesses to manage and control their costs.

Veeam Data Cloud Vault also simplifies cloud storage management by eliminating the need for organizations to have advanced cloud and security expertise. The service is fully managed and pre-configured, with integration into the Veeam Data Platform interface, allowing customers to procure, provision, and monitor their Veeam Vaults directly. Moreover, organizations can easily restore backups to on-premises or Azure VMs, providing additional flexibility and efficiency in data recovery processes.

Russ Fellows, Head of Labs at The Futurum Group, spoke about the common challenges businesses face in managing cloud infrastructure, particularly the unpredictability of cloud billing. Veeam’s Data Cloud Vault addresses this concern by offering a straightforward, all-inclusive, consumption-based pricing model, which helps businesses better manage their budgets while enhancing their security posture.

Veeam Data Cloud Vault is now available in two editions—Foundation and Advanced—starting at $14 per TB. These editions are designed to meet the needs of organizations seeking secure, cost-effective cloud storage for backup, offering a reliable alternative to traditional DIY cloud solutions. With the new predictable pricing model, businesses can benefit from a straightforward, affordable, and secure backup solution that simplifies the complexities of managing cloud storage and ensures their data is always protected and resilient.
