Huawei Cloud is now available in Egypt, expanding its reach in Africa

business .

Huawei launched a Cloud Region in Egypt on May 21, becoming the first company to establish a public Cloud in Northern Africa. The Cairo Region will offer Huawei Cloud's intelligent capabilities and serve as a hub for countries in the region. This announcement was made at the Huawei Cloud Summit 2024 in Cairo, adding to Huawei Cloud's global presence of 93 availability zones across 33 regions.

Jacqueline SHI, President of Huawei Cloud Global Marketing & Sales Service, announced at the summit that Huawei Cloud will provide capabilities such as artificial intelligence, Arabic large language models, and databases to support Egypt's 2030 Vision. She emphasized that everyone can now begin their digitization journey on Huawei Cloud. With unique chip capabilities, AI computing framework, and training platform, Huawei aims to assist the country in building data sovereignty and developing large language models.

Huawei Cloud also introduced its new Arabic Large Language Model (LLM), a significant advancement in aiding companies in the region with the digital transformation of vertical industries. The automatic speech recognition (ASR) service covers over 20 Arabic-speaking countries and boasts an impressive accuracy rate of 96%.

The newly introduced Arabic Large Language Model (LLM) in Egypt is a recent addition, while Huawei's Pangu model has already been utilized in practical applications in China and other regions. For instance, the AI model aids judges in analyzing court recordings and assists doctors in verifying prescriptions. Colin HU, President of Enterprise & Cloud Business, Huawei Northern Africa, highlighted the progression of use cases for Huawei Cloud's artificial intelligence capabilities and large language models.

Jacqueline SHI emphasized the importance of combining industry expertise with technology to maximize the benefits of the Cloud for various sectors. She highlighted the shared mindset of the team at Huawei Cloud, stating that each industry should have its specific Large Language Models (LLMs). Currently, Huawei Cloud caters to over 500 financial customers, 800 e-government projects, 120 carriers, and the top 30 automakers globally.

Mark CHEN, President of Huawei Cloud's Global Solution Sales Department, introduced the CHANGE architecture following the launch. This architecture includes a "new cloud native infrastructure," a "comprehensive cloud technology platform (AI)," leading solutions for various industry scenarios, efficient and comprehensive professional services, and expert consulting services. These components aim to offer improved, efficient, and valuable services for customers in finance, government affairs, e-commerce, and other sectors.

Mark CHEN stated that the CHANGE architecture is considered the best practice architecture for digital transformation in the current landscape. He emphasized that digital transformation is a complex and systematic project, requiring enterprises to address industry transformation and upgrading challenges with systematic thinking and innovative architectures.

Huawei has announced a US$300 million investment over five years to establish Egypt's first public cloud region. This initiative will provide over 200 cloud services, encompassing AI platforms, data platforms, and development platforms. In order to foster a robust ecosystem, Huawei plans to assist 200 local software partners, empower 1,300 channel partners, and ultimately build a prosperous local software and application ecosystem.

Huawei Cloud has enhanced its startup program in Egypt to expedite ecosystem development. The upgraded program includes access to an advanced cloud platform, training programs, and business resources. Through the Huawei Cloud Startup Program, dedicated teams are assigned to provide guidance on startups' cloud adoption and subsidize their cloud consumption. Additionally, a single startup can apply for cloud credits worth up to $150,000.
