6 master data management certifications that will pay off

As data and analytics become the beating heart of the enterprise, it's becoming increasingly vital for businesses to have consistent, high-quality data assets. Master data management (MDM) is required to ensure the consistency, accuracy, and control of an enterprise's data.

Customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM), and compliance all rely on a centralized, unified view of high-quality data. This is where MDM comes into play.

If you're looking for a competitive edge, MDM certification is an excellent choice. Certifications assess your knowledge and abilities against industry- and vendor-specific benchmarks in order to demonstrate to prospective employers that you possess the necessary skillset.

DAMA Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)

The DAMA Certified Data Management Professional certification program is comprised of three separate 90-minute exams: the Information Systems (IS) Core exam, the Data Management Core exam, and the Specialty exam. The exams assess abilities and knowledge in a variety of areas, including project management and data management processes, as well as business intelligence and information technology compliance. The certificate is divided into four tiers based on experience and exam scores: associate, practitioner, master, and fellow. CDMP Associate certification requires between six months and five years of industry experience and a minimum score of 60% on the Data Management Fundamentals exam. CDMP Practitioner requires two to ten years of industry experience, a minimum score of 70% on the Data Management Fundamentals exam, and passing two specialist exams. CDMP Master Certification requires at least ten years of industry experience, passing the fundamentals exam with an 80 percent passing score, and passing two specialist exams. The CDMP Fellow designation is open to CDMP Masters with a minimum of 25 years of industry experience who are nominated by the DAMA membership.
