How to Update Graphics Drivers on Your Computer Manually

A lot of gaming and high-end video or 3D graphics cards require you to go directly to their respective manufacturer's website in order to get the most up to date drivers for gaming and other demanding graphics applications.

1. On your Windows 10 computer, select Device Manager from the Start menu by right-clicking the Start button.

2. Find Display Adapters in the list and click on the arrow to the left of it to bring up a list of all of your computer's graphics controllers.

3. Right-click on the name of your graphics card or display adapter and choose Properties from the context menu.

4. The exact model of your graphics card will be displayed in a pop-up menu that appears after you select this option. You should make a note of it.

5. Go to the manufacturer's website and fill out the necessary information. The links provided below will take you directly to the graphics driver download page for the respective company.

  • AMD Graphics Drivers Downloads
  • Intel Graphics Driver Downloads

6. Locate the model of your graphics card on the website and download the appropriate driver.

Note: Hardware manufacturers make it easy to find what you're looking for on their websites. A drop-down menu is provided by NVIDIA, for example, that directs you to the specific GPU or graphics controller model that is installed on your computer.

7. From the Start button's context menu, select Device Manager from the list of options.

8. In Display Adapters, right-click the name of your graphics card and select Update Driver > Browse My Computer for Driver Software.

9. Select Browse from the drop-down menu to locate the downloaded driver update file. In the absence of a different save location for your new driver than the Downloads folder, your new driver will be found in the Users folder of your Downloads folder. Once you've located it, select it and then click OK to proceed.

10. The process of installing the new driver will begin on the Windows operating system. After you've finished with the instructions, restart your computer.
