Uber Has Expanded Its Ride-hailing Services To Two New Cities In Nigeria

Uber has expanded its ride-hailing services to two new cities in Nigeria

Uber is a technology company that provides transportation services. With the addition of two new cities in Nigeria, Uber has announced the expansion of its ride-hailing services to include Port Harcourt and Ibadan. Currently, Uber's services are available in five cities across Nigeria, including Lagos, Abuja, and Benin City, according to the company.

It is hoped that by providing an affordable, convenient, and reliable mode of transportation, Uber will be able to spur growth in cities for both drivers and passengers.

Akinwumi, Country Manager for Uber Nigeria, responded to the new development by reiterating the company's commitment to providing a reliable service for both riders and drivers alike. In his statement, he said, "We are excited about this announcement because it demonstrates our ongoing commitment to keeping riders moving and drivers earning despite the pandemic's numerous challenges." In Nigeria, the use of the Uber app has developed into a dependable source of income for drivers. We believe that Uber has the potential to provide a source of revenue that is critical to our efforts to contribute to the recovery and growth of the country's economic system."

"We intend to be present everywhere," he stated further. For commuters who want to get somewhere quickly, safely, and conveniently, we want to be the mode of transportation they choose to use the most. With this in mind, we would prefer to live in a progressive, forward-thinking city like any other. In addition to launching in Ibadan and Port Harcourt, we are looking forward to expanding our presence in Nigeria."

Earlier this year, Uber launched operations in Lagos. It expanded its services to include Abuja, the nation's capital, two years after it first opened its doors. The taxi hailing service began operating in Benin City, the capital of the state of Edo, in 2019.

Uber's presence in Nigeria is limited to five cities, whereas Bolt has a presence in 24 states, according to the company. These are just a few of the cities in Nigeria: Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Owerri, Ado-Ekiti, Bauchi, Calabar, Kano, Abeokuta, Enugu, Ibadan, and Benin City, to name a few.

While Bolt focuses on road transportation, Uber has expanded into the Lagos waterways market through UberBOAT, a boat taxi service in partnership with Texas Connection Ferries, a Lagos-based ferry transportation company, and the Lagos State Waterways Authority. Bolt focuses on road transportation, while Uber focuses on water transportation (LASWA).

Approximately 20,000 drivers have benefited from UberX's operations in Nigeria over the course of four years. This expansion will provide more Nigerians with an opportunity for economic growth as a result of the expansion.
