YouTube finally launches its short video service, YouTube Shorts, in Nigeria

YouTube Shorts, the company's short-form video service, has launched in Nigeria. Following its initial announcement in September 2020, YouTube expanded its availability to over 100 countries. Nigerian users will be able to access the beta version of the service on Wednesday, July 14.

YouTube Shorts enables anyone to reach a new audience using only their smartphone and the Shorts camera. Nigerian YouTube users now have access to Shorts' creation tools, allowing them to give their favorite videos a creative twist.

Users have access to a multi-segment camera that allows them to stitch together multiple video clips, as well as the ability to record with music and adjust speed settings.

Among the platform's other fantastic features, it enables users to sample audio from not only other Shorts, but also from other content on the platform. This enables users to interact with the content they enjoy watching on YouTube, providing them with unique creative touches and assisting them in reaching new audiences.

To sweeten the deal of the product's international expansion, new features are being added to existing and new markets.

Features Added

Among these features are the ability to add text to specific duration points in the video, the ability to record up to 60 seconds with the Shorts camera, and the ability to add clips from the phone gallery to Shorts camera recordings.

Additionally, there are filter options for adding color, effects, and vibrancy to Shorts videos, as well as caption additions.

Todd Sherman, Global Product Manager for YouTube Shorts, explains that the entire purpose is to make content creation simple and enjoyable for creators.

Shorts will be integrated into the YouTube platform, enabling users to fully access full songs and music videos simply by listening to excerpts from a Shorts video, enhancing the user experience.

YouTube's mission is to assist a new generation of creators in turning their ideas into profitable ventures, as well as to assist music artists in reaching a broad audience by listing their songs in the media library for use in video creation. YouTube recently announced a $100 million YouTube Shorts Fund to reward content creators.

“We recognize that getting this right will take time, and we're only getting started. We can't wait for you to give Shorts a try and help us create a world-class short-form video experience directly on YouTube," Sherman said.
