Yoko Ono

Yoko Ono is a fearless avant-garde and conceptual artist who pushes boundaries with her art. She is one of the pioneers of multimedia art and was a founder of the Fluxus movement.

Throughout her career, Ono wrote music and performed artistic installations. She has also lent her voice to films and written poetry.

Her most famous piece of performance art was Cut Piece, in which she sat passively in a draped dress while audience members cut pieces from her clothing until she was naked. This work is a good example of feminist art and was meant to highlight how women are objectified in society. This piece also highlighted sexual violence against women. It was a controversial piece of art that received mixed reviews and responses from audiences, ranging from adoring to extremely negative.

Grace Jones

Born in Jamaica, Grace Jones came to New York as a young girl and became a runway model for Yves Saint Laurent, Kenzo, and Azzedine Alaia. Her bold features and androgynous style made her stand out in the world of fashion, and she worked with photographers including Jean-Paul Goude, Helmut Newton, and Guy Bourdin.

Eventually, she started her career in film. She first appeared in the blaxploitation movie Gordon’s War, then played Zula in the sword and sorcery movie Conan the Destroyer, May Day in James Bond film A View to a Kill, and bloodthirsty vampire Katrina in Vamp.

In 1986, she released her album Inside Story with producer Nile Rodgers of Chic. The album was a hit, and it solidified Jones’ reputation as a boundary-breaking figure in music and fashion.

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin was one of the first women to achieve wide success in rock music and helped pave the way for other female singers. She was inspired by blues icons such as Bessie Smith and Big Mama Thornton, as well as folk artists like Lead Belly and Odetta.

She also used her talent to advocate for women’s rights and was involved in the counterculture movement. In her personal life, she was known to use drugs including heroin and cocaine.

She was found dead of an overdose of heroin and alcohol on October 4, 1970 at the Landmark Motor Hotel in Hollywood, California. She was 27 years old. Her death was a shock to the world of rock and was a major blow to the feminist movement.
