Jill Scott MBE has announced her retirement from football after 161 caps with England - winning an UEFA Women's Euro 2022 victory and serving as second most capped player for her nation.

She went on to play for Sunderland, Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa before retiring with one Women's Super League crown and three FA Cup victories with Manchester City.

She’s a people’s champion

Scott amassed 161 caps during her 16-year international career for England - second only to Fara Williams for most caps won by one player.

She was the heart and soul of the Lionesses dressing room, always finding time for each teammate, while her infectious laugh was sure to leave an impactful legacy amongst younger Lionesses like Ella Toone and Alessia Russo as role models to follow.

Scott will go down as one of the most significant figures in English women's football history. From playing for her local boys' side in Sunderland as a child to reaching a World Cup semi-final with City, her journey was incredible. Scott played an integral part in many defining moments for England including losing out 6-2 against Germany in 2009 Euro final, winning 2015 and 2019 World Cups and taking part in winning the FA Women's Cup (Toro Rio 2019). Nothing can compare with her satisfaction after winning her first major trophy since 1968!

She’s a legend

Jill Scott holds the second highest England appearance total in women's football history with 161 appearances - making her one of its premier representatives at a crucial point in its development. She was there as women's football made its breakthrough, finishing second at Euro 2009 and earning bronze at World Cup 2015. Additionally, Jill represented Team GB at two Olympics.

She captured every domestic honour available at club level during spells at Sunderland, Everton and Manchester City. After retiring last month with victory at Euro 2022 she has since had a statue dedicated to her in her hometown of Gateshead to honour her remarkable career.

Host Alex Legouix took Man City star, Jada Scott, for a ride around her old stomping ground at Man City to talk about her start as a player, dreaming of representing England as a child, the time she tackled David Beckham and more.

She’s a role model

Jill Scott has become a significant leader for women's soccer since her introduction. Off the pitch, her voice carries loudly; never afraid to express her opinion or challenge anyone's beliefs, such as during the 2022 European Championship final when she unleashed a fiery outburst directed at Germany's Syndey Lohmann during which expletives flew freely - an act which resulted in several players leaving their positions as Scott was forced out by her actions.

As an ambassador of the game, she visited schools and spoke to young people. Just this month she was honored by being given the freedom of Sunderland - joining former Manchester City teammate Steph Houghton MBE on this prestigious list.

Midfielder Kate Midson has been an integral figure in England's ascension into global football. Now holding second most caps after Fara Williams, her legacy will live on for generations to come.

She’s a coach

After captaining England's Under-19 side, Scott earned her senior debut in 2006. She joined Hope Powell's squad at the 2007 World Cup and scored the winning goal against Netherlands in semi-final match-up - earning an MBE for services rendered to women's football in 2020 New Year Honours list.

Scott spent seven years with Everton before eight with Manchester City, winning every domestic honour at both clubs. Additionally, she played an integral part of England's Euro 2022 championship team and participated in 10 major tournaments with Lionesses.

On and off the pitch, she exudes quiet dignity. A family woman, she has had some trying times - such as asking her mother for PS50 so she could fill up her car so she could drive to training - yet remains modest about all she has accomplished - an essential pioneer of female football.
