Pallet Racking Installation Tips

Pallet Rack installation may appear to be something that requires the services of a professional, but it is actually quite simple if some basic rules are followed. The following is a step-by-step guide for installing your racking.

First and foremost, gather any tools that you may require. We would suggest the following:

  • Tape measure,
  • string line
  • Hammer Drill
  • adjustable spanner

1/.First Step

The first and most important step is to accurately measure and mark out the area. You'll need your chalk string line to mark out the floor. Measure the distance back from the wall where you want the rear beam to be (take into account the pallet size and any beams you may have against the wall). As a general rule, mark the distance at 400mm off the wall if you are using standard 1200 by 1200 pallets. Mark the floor in sections and then draw a line the length of the racking you require with your chalk string line.

2/. Step 2

Now that you've determined where you want the back of your pallet racking in Melbourne to be, it's time to figure out where your first upright frame will be. Place the upright on the line and mark two locations where the base plate will be secured with dyna bolts. It's easiest to have your first bay ready to go and simply move it in and out of position. Drill a hole into your concrete floor with a heavy-duty hammer drill, making sure the hole is deeper than the length of the dyna bolt. Install the first bay and tighten the dyna bolts to secure the frame. This is by far the most important bay to install, and I cannot emphasise how important it is to double-check all of your measurements.

3/. Third Step

All you have to do with the second bay is attach the beams and frame to the first. Check that it is level with your string line and mark the location of your next two dyna bolts. You will then need to move the end frame away from the dyna bolt marks and drill the new holes. Remember to drill your hole deeper than the length of the dyna bolt or it will not tighten properly on the base plate. Now that your holes are drilled, you can reinstall the frame and secure the dyna bolts. This second stage is repeated until you have installed the required number of bays. Now that your frames are in place, it's just a matter of adjusting your beams to the desired level. Good pallet racking will include safety locking pins to secure the beams in place. If you double-checked all of your measurements before beginning installation, you should now be able to stand back and admire your work while counting the money you saved by not having to hire someone to do it for you. Our cantilever pallet racking in Melbourne is ideal for storing long, oddly shaped, and oversized items.

Pallet Racks: Types and Suggestions

If you have a limited amount of space and want to make the best use of it, installing pallet racks is the best option. Pallet racking is a design that holds objects and materials and is used to make better use of space and manage small spaces. Pallet racking systems are very popular in offices and businesses with small workspaces and can be used effectively if well designed. In this manner, limited space is efficiently utilised. Pallet racks are classified into several types, the most common of which is the selective rack.
