5 Things You Should Know About Spotify Greenroom, The Clubhouse Rival With Podcast Feature
5 things you should know about Spotify Greenroom, the Clubhouse rival with podcast feature
Spotify has launched its live audio chat app, Greenroom, on Android and iOS in 135 countries, including Nigeria.
Greenroom is a reimagined version of Betty Labs' Locker Room app, which was acquired by Spotify in March. The dark-themed app includes features akin to those found in Clubhouse, such as the ability to engage in live audio conversations without requiring an invite.
We tested Greenroom's Android release and discovered five (5) things you should know.
Create or join live audio rooms
As with Clubhouse, you can enter any Spotify Greenroom audio room. Additionally, you can create a new room for your own live discussions. Room recommendations are made for you based on the topics you select.
To join an ongoing audio chat, click Join room or to create your own, click New room. You can sign in with your existing Spotify credentials or create a new account.
Locating speakers takes some time
You'd have to scroll up and down for a while to see who's speaking in a room at any given time during a conversation, which occurs on Clubhouse as well. This means that if you wish to speak on Greenroom, you may not be granted permission in time, and audience members may struggle to identify who is speaking.
On the other hand, Twitter Spaces clearly displays the host and speakers, ensuring that there is no confusion.
Record your audio chats and convert to podcasts
Notably, any Greenroom user can convert their hosted audio conversations into podcasts that can be uploaded to Spotify later.
Your podcast does not have to be technical or feature a celebrity, as long as it is appealing to your audience and complies with Spotify's terms and conditions. When creating a room, ensure that Get room recording is enabled to receive a copy of the podcast via email.
You can earn between $2 and $4 per 1000 Spotify podcast streams, depending on factors such as the duration of the stream, the ratio of paid to free users, and the country of the stream. Spotify's average payout per stream is $0.003.
Clear sound quality
Greenroom's audio chat sounds are clear and audible, free of in-app background noise. Additionally, conversations are spontaneous and occur in real time.
Occasionally, hosts and speakers speak concurrently, but you hear both. In addition, there are no intrusive advertisements to worry about.
App bugs and glitches in crowded rooms
When you host or join a room, you may experience some click freezing as the conversation grows larger. Worse yet, the app may simply cease to function entirely, necessitating a restart. This could be because Greenroom is still in early access and is being tested by Spotify.
