Several Digital Quality of Life (DQL) indexes have found that Algerians have experienced the fastest growth in internet speeds over the past year.

In its 2021 global index, Surfshark, a provider of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and other cybersecurity services, ranked the North African country first in terms of both mobile and broadband speed growth, according to the company.

Aside from that, the country of Algeria was ranked eighth in the world in terms of mobile internet stability, even though the index placed the country at 86th place in the world overall in terms of digital quality of life and at 7th place in Africa in terms of digital services.

This demonstrates that the country was the most aggressive in the world when it came to expanding its bandwidth in order to improve the efficiency of its citizens and businesses.

The Internet testing, data collection, and analytics company Ookla conducted a comparison study in August and found that Algeria had a mobile download speed of 17.3 Megabytes per second and an upload speed of 10.1 Megabytes per second, while its fixed broadband download and upload speeds were 9.95 Megabytes per second and 1.53 Megabytes per second, respectively.

Furthermore, Senegal and Cote d'Ivoire have seen significant increases in broadband speed, with the two countries ranking alongside Algeria in terms of speed, taking positions 9 and 10 in Africa overall and 92 and 93 in the global rankings, respectively, according to the World Bank.

Internet quality, electronic infrastructure, affordability, electronic security, and electronic government are the five criteria used to calculate the Digital Quality Index (DQL). Morocco and Nigeria, which are ranked 10th and 16th in the world, respectively, in terms of broadband speed growth, are a good example.

Nigeria (82) currently outranks Morocco (84) in global rankings and is ranked 5th among Africa's top countries for high-quality digital services, ahead of Morocco, which is ranked 6th. Nigeria is also ranked 5th in Africa for high-quality digital services, ahead of Morocco, which is ranked 6th.

It appears that there is a global trend toward more affordable internet this year. When comparing the index to the previous year, people are working 29 percent less (28 minutes) while working 11 percent more (25 minutes) to afford mobile internet and broadband internet, respectively.

People's digital well-being is most positively impacted by investments in electronic infrastructure and electronic government, according to the Digital Well-Being Index.

The majority of African countries achieved their highest rankings in the categories of internet quality and affordability, with two countries – Kenya and Mauritius – adding the artificial intelligence readiness index to the list of Africa's highest-ranking categories. Africa's highest-ranking categories include internet quality, affordability, and artificial intelligence readiness.

South Africa is the top-ranked country in Africa in terms of overall ranking and is ranked 68th in the world out of 110 countries in terms of the quality of digital services.

On the continent, the countries with the highest rankings were Mauritius (74) followed by Kenya (79) Tunisia (81) and Ghana (89). The countries with the lowest rankings were Mauritius (74) and Kenya (79) followed by Tunisia (81) and Ghana (89).
