Apple Watch Production Delayed Due To The Complicated Design

Apple Watch production delayed due to the complicated design

Because of manufacturing difficulties, Apple has delayed the production of new Apple Watch models, according to a report published Tuesday by Nikkei Asia.

According to the report, after starting small-scale production, the company ran into issues with the finished assembly's quality after the first few months. A new, complicated design that included a new blood pressure sensor as well as water-resistance features, according to Nikkei's sources, was the root cause of the production holdup.

A new Apple Watch and iPhone models are typically announced by the company in September or October; however, the company has not yet announced a date for this year's announcement. Despite the fact that Apple does not publicly disclose sales figures for the Apple Watch, the device is by far the most important component of the company's wearables division, which is expected to generate $30.6 billion in revenue in 2020.

When Apple ramps up massive production lines in advance of a fall release, the company must ensure that there is enough supply of new gadgets to meet Apple's enormous demand following launch, all while maintaining secrecy about its product release plans, according to the report.

Rigid prototype production system

Despite the fact that the Nikkei report did not mention that Apple was delaying the launch of the new Apple Watch, it did mention that the delay could have an impact on Apple's plans following the announcement of the new watches.

A rigid prototype production system is used by Apple, which allows the company to continuously produce larger quantities of unreleased products in order to iron out assembly issues in the months leading up to the launch of new products. Immediately following the design of an iPhone or iPad product, Apple engineers travel to contracted factories in Asia to resolve manufacturing issues, ensuring that the company can produce millions of devices in a short period of time while maintaining the company's high quality and reliability standards.

Apple has previously experienced production problems that have delayed product launches in the fall, though the company is not known for providing public commentary on its operations.

Last year, during the influenza pandemic that caused travel to Asia to be disrupted, Apple released two iPhone 12 models in October and two more in November, both of which were released several weeks later than the company's usual release schedule. A major redesign of the iPhone was introduced by Apple in 2017 with the iPhone X, which was in short supply in the weeks following its November release due to reports that the company's facial recognition camera, known as Face ID, was experiencing production issues.

The price of Apple's stock remained unchanged during the trading session on Tuesday. Suppliers of Apple Watch components were erratic in their deliveries. Qualcomm, which supplies Apple with cellular modems, saw its stock rise by less than one percent.

Apple did not respond to a request for comment.
