Google Pixel 5a 5G has been quietly launched and features the same design as the Pixel 4a 5G launched last September. Indeed, not only the design has remained consistent, but the majority of the specifications have as well. Google has made only a few changes to the new phone in order to keep it affordable. In comparison to the Pixel 4a 5G, the Pixel 5a 5G has a slightly larger display, a dust and water resistance rating, and a significantly larger battery. While the Pixel 5a comes packaged with a charger, Google has reportedly confirmed that the Pixel 6 series will not include one.

Price and availability of the Google Pixel 5a 5G

Google Pixel 5a 5G is priced at $449 (approximately Rs. 33,400) for the single 6GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration available in one color, Mostly Black. It is currently available for pre-order in the United States of America and Japan, the only countries in which it will be sold. The phone will be available for purchase beginning August 26.

By comparison, the Pixel 4a 5G costs $499 (approximately Rs. 37,100), making the newer, improved model $50 (approximately Rs. 3,700) less expensive.

Specifications for the Google Pixel 5a 5G

The Pixel 5a 5G is powered by Android 11 and features a 6.34-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,400 pixels) OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 413ppi pixel density, and support for HDR. The display is slightly larger than the 6.2-inch display on the Pixel 4a 5G. The new phone is also powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 765G SoC and Adreno 620 GPU. It comes equipped with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

For photos and videos, the Pixel 5a 5G features a 12.2-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.7 lens and a 16-megapixel secondary sensor with an f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens. The difference is that the Pixel 5a's ultra-wide shooter has a slightly wider field of view (FoV) of 118.7 degrees than the Pixel 4a 5G's at 117 degrees. Another distinction is that the Google Pixel 5a 5G lacks laser autofocus. On the front, the same 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture is housed in a hole-punch cutout in the display's top left corner.

The Pixel 5a 5G features dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a USB Type-C port for connectivity. The proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and barometer are all onboard. Additionally, there is a fingerprint scanner mounted on the rear. The phone is powered by a 4,680mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The battery is larger than the 3,885mAh capacity of the Pixel 4a 5G. Additionally, the Pixel 5a 5G is water and dust resistant to IP67 standards. The phone's dimensions are 154.9x73.7x7.6mm and it weighs 183 grams.

Google officially announced the Pixel 6 series earlier this month by revealing the design and some of the specifications. According to The Verge, citing Google, the Pixel 6 series will not include a charger in the box. According to reports, Google has stated that the Pixel 5a 5G will be the final phone to include a charger, citing the fact that the majority of people already own a USB-C charging brick.
