How Stranerd is establishing an online learning community for Nigerian students

Attending good schools with excellent teachers is extremely important for the academic development of a Nigerian child's abilities. Learning, on the other hand, can be more enjoyable when students study with and learn from their peers. According to studies, students learn more from their peers than they do from traditional classroom instruction.

This is due to the fact that peer learning provides students with opportunities to open up while discussing ideas with 'equals,' as well as to have their ideas challenged by their peers. It also aids in the development of personal relationships and the encouragement of healthy competition. Finally, it assists students in becoming more aware of their own thought patterns as well as assessing their own knowledge and understanding.

This is essentially what Stranerd, a Nigerian education technology startup, is aiming to achieve with their product. The edtech startup, which was founded by Jeremiah Godwin (CEO) and Timmy Salami (COO/CFO) and launched in August 2021 (Beta), began life as an Instagram page that provided assistance to primarily international students with their studies.

However, during the pandemic of 2020, there was an increase in the number of Nigerian students in need of educational technology services, which was a positive development. Apart from platforms such as Ulesson, which cater primarily to K-2 students, they discovered that A-Level and university students did not have access to a single platform that could solve their educational problems.

In order to accomplish this, Stranerd.com is providing A-Level and university students with a one-stop site for all of their academic needs, including quick homework help, study materials, and past questions, as well as a community of students just like them where they can feel a sense of belonging.

Mode of operation of Stranerd

Stranerd is a platform that promotes peer-to-peer learning and collaboration. They believe that every student with something to contribute is a "nerd," and that they are all welcome on the platform. Three major features enable the startup to deliver its services in a highly efficient manner.

In terms of platform features, the Ask a Question feature is the most prominent, as it allows students to ask academic questions and receive brilliant answers from their classmates. When a student asks a question, he or she attaches a'reward' to that question, and the student who provides the best answer receives the reward, which is usually in the form of a coin.

As a result, Stranerd recognizes the need for actual tutors on a platform such as this, and the Meet a Tutor feature allows students to meet expert tutors who can assist with more in-depth instructions, particularly for homework, through the platform. In addition to an evaluation of both their educational and soft qualifications, tutors are given a tick to indicate their current status as a vetted professional.

The final major feature is the Coin System, which is essentially a currency and reward system that operates on-site. The coin system works in the same way that physical money does, by making every action on the platform easier to complete. For the time being, users can only earn coins by answering questions or by purchasing coins from the store. As the company grows and adds new features, the founders hope to expand the number of options available.

Each and every action taken on this website is associated with the coins system, which is explained further below." Students use coins to ask questions, and students who answer these questions receive the coins used to ask the questions. "The coins will also be used to book sessions with tutors, access study tools and materials they require, and so on," the CEO told Technext.

A total of two types of coins are available on the platform: gold coins, which are used to book tutors, and bronze coins, which are used to ask questions. According to the startup, the two coins are tied to the two major functions that are currently available on the platform. It claims that the coins will be used to gain access to additional features as they become available.

However, cash rewards will eventually be given to the students; however, this is not being implemented at this time in order to avoid the students becoming overly concerned with the monetary value of the product and losing sight of the true value that the product will provide them.

As part of its ranking system, the platform tracks users' progress and impact since they first signed up for the system. There are five levels/ranks in the game, which are Rookie, Comrade, Scholar, Wizard, and Einstein, among others.

For each rank, there are achievement badges, streak badges, and count badges for various tasks that you complete to inform other students of your level of progress on the site. "It's like 2go star progress," Jeremiah described the situation.

How Stranerd generate revenue

Several different methods are used by Stranerd to generate revenue. First and foremost, there is an 8-8-4 quota system in place, through which the startup earns a portion of the money that tutors earn. The cost of submitting a question is a minimum of 20 bronze coins paid by the student. The payment is divided into eight equal payments of eight coins each, with eight coins going to the two best answers (as determined by the asker), and four coins going to the startup.

In addition, the startup intends to introduce subscription plans in order to make the platform more affordable and to encourage students to use it on a long-term basis.

According to the official, "there will be different packages, but that hasn't been fully articulated yet." The majority of our revenue will come from the Class subscriptions we offer. "A subscription costs between N10,000 and N15,000 per month, and we take a percentage of that as well," Jeremiah explained.

Furthermore, the company intends to allow tutors to sell study materials to students, such as past questions and study sets, through its platform.

In addition, tutors can create their own study materials, which other students who wish to access them can do so for a fee. For example, creating a "keypoint" or summary of an extensive course and loaning it out to other students is an example of what I mean. "We also get a cut of the profits," the CEO explained.

As a whole, Stranerd provides students with a fun and enjoyable way to learn through interaction with their fellow students. Besides that, it provides an opportunity for them to earn money while also teaching them how to be financially responsible by allowing them to spend their coins on the things they require in some cases.
