How to Change Compromised Passwords in Chrome for Android

Changing passwords used to be a time-consuming endeavor. Navigation to the site, sign in with your username and password information, and then saving your information were all required steps. That is no longer the case. On Android, users of the Chrome browser can update their passwords with a single tap on a button.

Here's how you go about it.

Step 1: Enable synchronization

It is necessary to be logged into your Google account in Chrome and have Sync enabled in order for the password-changing feature to function properly.

1. Start by launching the Chrome browser and selecting Settings from the three vertical dots on the top right of the address bar.

2. Select Turn on synchronization from the drop-down menu.

3. Confirm that you want to use the Google account you created and tap Yes, I'm in.

4. To sync your data, toggle the Sync everything button. If you don't want to sync all of your data, you can simply uncheck the Passwords checkbox.

Once Sync is enabled, whenever you check your passwords, Google Assistant will notify you that one or more have been compromised and prompt you to change your password.

Step 2: Change the passwords that have been compromised

Following the completion of this configuration, you will be able to check whether any of your saved passwords have been compromised or if any of your passwords are duplicates.

1. Select Settings from the three vertical buttons on the far right of the address bar in Chrome. 2. Click OK to close the window.

2. Select Passwords > Check passwords from the drop-down menu.

3. When you open Chrome, the browser will scan all of your saved passwords and display a list of those that have been compromised.

Chrome can change your passwords for you in apps and websites that are supported by the browser. You'll notice a large Change password button to the right. Simply tap on it and follow any on-screen instructions that appear.

Where the Change password button is present on non-supported sites and services, it will redirect you to the site itself, where you will be required to log in and make the change manually. If you have an app installed on your device, you may be directed to it in some instances.

In Conclusion

With the introduction of this button, Google has made the process of changing passwords more efficient and less frustrating. Additionally, the button improves data security by allowing you to quickly determine whether or not your passwords have been compromised or are insecure in other ways.

Passwords can be a headache, especially when it comes to old services that you no longer use. In order to protect your data, it's a good idea to track down all of the accounts that have been linked to your email address and either update the passwords or completely disable them.
