You Can Make Changes on the Display Resolution on Apple TV

When you connect the Apple TV to any display, it will automatically try to detect and pick the correct resolution. In case it fails to automatically do so, you could be stuck with a less-than-ideal picture quality. Here’s how you can quickly fix your Apple TV’s screen resolution.

The first thing you should immediately do is to check the optimum resolution for your display. This usually will be mentioned in the product listing on the display manufacturer’s website. If it’s not there, it then should be mentioned on the box that the display is shipped with. In some cases, after you have connected it, the display will show a dialog onscreen box with the correct resolution.

1. So, Once you’ve determined the right display resolution, open the “Settings” app on your Apple TV.

2. Go to Apple TV Settings

3. Next, select “Video and Audio.

4. Select Video and Audio

5. Navigate to the “Format” option.

6. Select Format

7. This page will show you some standard display resolutions such as 1080p SDR 60Hz, 4K HDR 50Hz, etc. From here, you can select the resolution for your display.

8. Select the correct resolution

9. The only issue is that these may not be the exact values and may not match the recommended resolution for your display. To get this, scroll to the bottom and select “Other Formats.”

10. Select Other Formats

11. This is where you’ll see the exact display resolution values such as the 2560×1080 HDR 60Hz, along with other resolutions not mentioned on the previous screen. Select the correct display resolution of the set here.

12. Select the right resolution

13. If Apple TV manages to switch to the correct resolution, it will display a message that states that it was successfully able to change the resolution. Select the “OK” button.

14. Hit OK

That’s all you have to do on changing the display resolution. In case the switch to a different resolution is unsuccessful, it is possible that you might see a black screen for several seconds, and in most cases your display could even switch off on its own. Simply press the Menu button on your Apple TV remote to return to the original resolution, and then you can try to make changes to a compatible resolution again.
