How To Download PDFs in the Edge, Firefox, and Chrome Browser Instead of Only Previewing Them

PDF documents have now become very popular. With time a broad range of PDF document Readers have been developed but at times they may need to view the PDF online using a browser. Many official documents most times come in PDF format and may pose a challenge especially when you do not have a PDF Reader installed.

When you click a PDF link in most of your browsers, the browser opens the PDF preview in a web browser window. To download a PDF and not just to preview it, you need to change somethings in your browser settings . This works majorly in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome.

Get Chrome to Download Your PDF Instead of Preview a PDF

Google Chrome uses its built-in PDF viewer to give you a view of preview PDFs. You can turn this PDF viewer off, and you will receive a prompt from Chrome asking you to save your PDFs rather than preview them.

1. Start by launching Google Chrome on your computer.

2. When Chrome opens, tap the Chrome menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of your window, then choose “Settings.”

3. Settings option in Chrome menu

4. In Chrome settings, tap “Privacy and security” in the left sidebar. Click “Site Settings” on the right.

5. Site settings option in Chrome

6. Scroll down in Site Settings and click “Additional content settings” at the very bottom.

Mozilla Firefox also has a built-in option that allows you to download PDFs instead of previewing them only in this browser.

1. To get to that option, launch Firefox on your computer.

2. In Firefox, click the menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner of the window and select “Options.”

3. Options option in Firefox

4. In Options, tap “General” on the left side. Scroll down the right pane until you discover the “Applications” section.

5. In the Applications section, tap the option next to “Portable Document Format (PDF)” and choose “Save File.”

That’s all!

2. When Edge opens, click the menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of the window and select “Settings.”
