How to Download Your Data for Google Maps. 

 

If you are going to create a backup or you want to use a new maps service, you can download your Google Maps data very easily. You do not have to start fishing through all of your Google account data. All you need to do is to go right to the Google Maps desktop website and then export your information.

 

Create an Export on Google Maps

1. To download your data, go straight to Google Maps on your computer and then sign in. Next, tap the three line menu icon located at the top left corner that is next to the Search box.

 

2. Tap Menu in the Search Google Maps box, then near the bottom, choose “Your Data in Maps.” after selecting your Data in Maps. On the next screen, just scroll down to and then select “Download Your Maps Data.”

 

3. After tapping the Download Your Maps Data, choose Your Data, and you can now export "the Location History", "the Maps (Your Places)", "My Maps", or all the three of it. Check the box/boxes next to the data that you choose.

 

4. You can check boxes for the data you want, and for those items that are offering “Multiple Formats,” just tap one to view or to change the file format for the particular item.

 

5. Choose a different file format, and when you’re ready, tap “Next Step.”

 

Select the Destination, Frequency, and File Type

1. You can send your data file and deliver it to your email or send it to your preferred cloud storage service, including the Google Drive, the Dropbox, the OneDrive, or the Box. Choose the destination in the “Delivery Method” option of the drop-down box.

 

2. Now pick a data delivery method, for the purposes of this how to, you will receive your file via email.

 

3. Next, you can select a one time export of your data or you can set it up for the whole year with exports in every two months. You might even want to consider going with the regular exports if you have saved your favorite places or if you have created custom maps often.

Downloading Your Google Maps Data

Depending on the amount of Google Maps data that you have got, the export process can take minutes to days. There will be an email receivedl to your Gmail account when the file is ready.

The "Manage Exports" option will take you to a web page that is displaying the data that you have opted to receive with a “Download” button. The "Download Your Files" option will then direct you to same page, but will now automatically download your file at the same time.

 

Click Download

After your file has been obtained, head straight to your Downloads location to open it. You will see folders for each type of the data you selected.

If you opt for the option of sending the file to a storage service instead, the email notification that you have received when the file is ready will contain a link for you to fo and obtain it. Simply tap the link, sign in if need be, and then access your file.

 

Data Export Ready in Drive Email

Regardless of the place you send your file of Google Maps data, you will have a backup that is handy you can hold onto. Plus, you will have the files that you need should incase you later decide to import them into another maps service.
