Sometimes you end up snapping photos that are horizontally mirrored. This is very common when you take selfies. Do you want to change the direction of a photo (or a face)? Here’s how to flip your photos on iPad and iPhone. 

The photo editor on the iPhone and iPad comes with a built-in tool that allows for flipping photos horizontally (sideways). It’s the fastest way for you to flip mirrored selfies. But if you want your photos to be flipped vertically (upside down), you’ll have to make use of a free third-party app like the Photoshop Express. We’ll cover the both methods below.

How To Mirror Photos Horizontally Using Photos on iPad and iPhone

The built-in Photos app that is on the iPhone and iPad hides quite a robust photo editor. One of its features it hides is the flip images button.

1. To get started, open the photo that you want to flip on your iPhone or iPad. Then, from the top, just click the “Edit” button.

2. Tap Edit from Photo

3. From the bottom toolbar, go to the Crop section.

4. Tap Crop Button

5. Here, tap the Flip Horizontally button from the top-left corner of the screen.

6. Tap Flip Image Button

7. The image will be flipped instantly.

11. By default, your iPhone or iPad will overwrite the original image. If you want to save the mirrored photo as a new image, it is advised that you duplicate the original image first.

How To Flip Photos Using Photoshop Express on iPad and iPhone

Photoshop Express is a feature that is very good in photo editing on your iPhone or iPad.

In some ways, you can think of it as the Photoshop app mobile version. While it has  many of its pro features hidden behind a subscription, you can still make use the free version to do your simple editings.

One of the features that is available on the free version is the ability to flip vertically and horizontally images.

1. To get started, open the app and alllow for permission to access your photos. Now, from the Home tab, navigate to the “Edit” section. Here, simply select the photo that you want to edit.

2. Select Photo to Flip from Photoshop Express

3. From the photo editing view, go to the “Crop” tab. From here, select the “Rotate” option. Swipe to the left to see the “Flip Vertical” and “Flip Horizontal” options.

7. Once you’re done, tap the “Share” button from the top toolbar.

9. Here, tap the “Camera Roll” button. The flipped image will be exported and will be saved to the Photos app.
