How To Send Anonymous Emails

How to Send Anonymous Emails.

Have you ever wanted to send an email completely anonymous? It is very easy to send an email without revealing your identity. Below are several ways for you to send an anonymous email.

1. Burner Email Account with a VPN

Using a webmail account such as Gmail to send an anonymous email is a great option. You can sign up for a Gmail account without entering any personal identifying information. Later, you can make use of that email address as a burner account.

Also, when you send an anonymous email from Gmail, the originating IP address in the email header is a Google server address, instead of your IP address. The change in the IP address gives you another degree of anonymity.

If someone were to trace the IP address in the email header, it would only show a Google server location. The server is not necessarily close to your location either, but it is also worth covering your tracks.

With that said, your original IP address is kept on Google’s systems. So, if the government or any other authority decides to come knocking and asking for your location, Google could provide it.

2. Use Your Email Client and a VPN

The second method for sending an anonymous email is by using an email client that is installed on your system. There are three steps to take to make sure you remain anonymous:

Sign up for a disposable email address (eg Gmail, Yahoo Mail or GMX)
Install Thunderbird or any other alternative free email client
Install and connect it to a VPN service

All you have to do is open up your VPN and ensure that your computer is using a remote IP address. Then, send an email through your email client by using the throwaway account. Now the email header will show your VPN IP address instead of showing your originating IP address in the email header.

3. AnonEmail

AnonEmail is an anonymous email service by AnonyMouse. The AnonEmail service lets you send anonymous emails by using a number of nodes. When you send your email using the service, it bounces the email through random nodes, making it impossible to trace it back to your IP address.

AnonEmail is easy to use. All you need to do is to fill in your recipient, the subject, and a short plain-text message, then click on “Send Anonymously.” Contrary to many other services, AnonEMail does not (appear to) log your device IP address. When I was testing the service out, it didn’t show or trace my IP address. However, I would strongly advise that you not to send anything sensitive or illegal.

4. Cyber Atlantis

Cyber Atlantis is yet another free anonymous email service provider. The Cyber Atlantis service also gives you PGP encryption. This means that as well as sending your email without an IP address, you can also encrypt the content of the email before sending it.

The content of the email is then kept completely secure. Only the owner of the public key can unlock the message content with their private key. The use of public-key encryption could have an unintended issue. For instance, if the encryption key is not widely used, and has only been shared with a number of people, the anonymous email recipient could attempt to find out the sender.
